The St. Lawrence University men's track and field team took home first place today after multiple notable outings, including personal records and regional qualifying times, Saturday afternoon at the St. Lawrence Invitational in Canton, N.Y.
Their team total of 232.5 points was 67.5 points ahead of second place Utica.
"Today was a really fun meet with some great competition from both New York and Canada," said Saints head coach
John Newman. "The team stepped up and continues to make strong progress toward our season goals. To see them compete for top places in almost every event made for an exciting and rewarding day in Newell. We also had a number of PR's and new conference qualifying performances."
In the 5000-meter run, the Saints had two top four finishers. Sophomore
Will Chalfant placing third with his time of 16:15.14, and sophomore
Galen Halasz was right behind him in fourth with a time of 16:30.78 – both those times were personal bests.
Junior
Charlie Beams put up a time of 4:38.06 in the mile run, which allowed him to place third for this event.
In the 60-meter hurdles, first-year
Trystan Biller placed second with a time of 8.83.
The Saints displayed dominance in the 800-meter run, sweeping the top five. Leading the way was first-year
Cyrus Goetze claiming first with his time of 2:00.92, right behind him was junior
Nick Lyndaker in second, and junior
Timothy Boyce in third.
Sophomore
Bodie Molnar took third place in the 200-meter dash with his time of 23.00, and sophomore
Caleb Young placed fourth right behind him with his time of 23.07.
In the 3000-meter run, junior
Patrick Russell placed second with a time of 8:54.75. His teammates were right behind him, with junior
Griffin Roeder placing third, and junior
Colin Young taking home fourth.
In the 4x200-meter relay, the Saints team consisting of sophomore
Jack Beauchesne, first-year Peyton Bessette, sophomore
John Mahoney, and junior
Michael Smigen placed second with their time of 1:36.44.
For the distance medley, the Saints took home the win with their team including Boyce, Goetze, Lyndaker, and sophomore
Peter Stubler.
To cap off the event, the Saints placed first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.64.

Kristofer Mellor was the team for this event.
In the field events, sophomore
Brendan O'Horo cleared 3.95 meters to secure his second-place finish in the pole vault. In the long jump, junior
Brogan McGorray leaped to a personal best of 6.16 meters to claim third place.Â

Erik Shattenberg placed second in the triple jump with 11.65 meters, and Smigen placed third with his jump of 11.41 meters.
In the weight throw, Matthew Brinck hit a personal best on his birthday, tossing one for 12.42 meters.
The Saints return to action on Thursday, January 30 to take part in the RIT invitational in Rochester, N.Y.
