Nick Lyndaker's personal-best time at the Hamilton Short Course led the St. Lawrence University men's cross country team to their second straight first-place finish Saturday afternoon in Clinton, N.Y.
The Canton, N.Y. native turned in his best 5k performance with a time of 15:10.7, 12 seconds better than his second-place finish in the same event last year. This time around, the 2023 All-American beat the field by 21 full seconds for the convincing victory.
As a team, St. Lawrence finished the event with 51 points, which put them in a tie with host Hamilton for first in the event.
:Nick ran a smart race and was able to pull away from the lead group fairly early and secure the win," said Saints head coach
John Newman. "Griffin ran a great race of his own to finish fifth place as our second scorer. Will Chalfant may have had the surprise race of the day for the Saints dropping over a minute and a half for a new cross country 5k PR. It's nice to get both the individual and team win on the day as our last under-distance race of the season. We are excited to race the full 8000-meter distance at home at the Hoff next week."
Lyndaker wasn't the only St. Lawrence runner to record their lifetime-best, with
Griffin Roeder crossing the line in fifth-place with a run of 15:39.9 for the fastest time he has run in the 5k.
Patrick Russell's personal-best time of 15:46.2 put him in 10
th place in the event.
