The St. Lawrence men's cross country team appeared the top of the leaderboard in the Plattsburgh 5K Saturday, with
Nick Lyndaker taking first place in the event Saturday afternoon at Rugar Woods.
Lyndaker, who is coming off All-America honors during a career year in 2023, had a time of 16:11.4 in the event, beating the field by seven full seconds.
This also bested his time of 16:20.2 in last season's iteration of the race, where Lyndaker placed second.
Patrick Russell followed up Lyndaker in second place, also registering a faster time than last year's event winner. Five of the first seven finishers in the event wore Scarlet and Brown.
"It was great to finally race and see this team perform in a race situation," said head coach
John Newman. "Nick ran a steady race to lock up the individual win and was backed by a great supporting cast, within only 20 seconds, to complete our scoring. Pat's second place finish has to be one of his best career cross country finishes, which is a huge testament to how much he's elevated his running in the past year."
St. Lawrence now heads home to host their 19
th-annual Alumni Race on Saturday, September 7, before they return to the road at the Hamilton Short Course the following weekend.
