Junior
Emma Strack made her third postseason appearance in as many years to conclude the St. Lawrence University Nordic ski team's 2024 campaign with a postseason run at the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by the University of Colorado in Steamboat Springs, Colo., while the rest of the Saints wrapped up the EISA collegiate circuit at the NCAA Eastern Regionals at Middlebury at the end of February.
Â
"It was another exciting season with the team highlighted by some outstanding performances by
Emma Strack at NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado," said head coach
Ethan Townsend.Â
Â
Strack posted a final time of 23 minutes and 28.5 seconds, finishing 16th in the 7.5K freestyle, posting the fifth-best result out of all the EISA skiers competing at nationals. She also recorded a 19th-place finish in the 20K classic. Her 16th-place finish ties for fourth in the Saints record books for best finishes at NCAAs. Strack holds the second and third place records from her results from 2023. Â
Â
During the regular season, Strack started off the season with three top-10 finishes, including a podium third-place finish in the 20K classic at Colby. She took a fall at Harvard, but battled back and recorded a 12th-place finish in the 15K classic and closed the season with a13th-place finish in the 20K classic at regionals.
Â
In 2024, she became the first skier in Coach Townsend's tenure to podium twice and now is the first skier to qualify for NCAAs three times.
Â
Amanda Vansant had a strong season for the Scarlet and Brown, finishing 36th in the 7.5K skate and 39th in the 20K both at Colby, as well as a 34th-place finish in the sprints at Dartmouth.
Etta Leugers posted a career-best 39th-place finish in the 20K classic at Middlebury and finished with two other top-40 finishes on the season.Â
Â
On the men's side,
Colton Martin started out the year with a 46th-place finish in the 10K freestyle at UVM and closed the season with a season-best 35th-place finish in the 7.5K skate at Middlebury.
Â
First-year
Geo DeBrosse performed consistently for the Saints all season recording a career-best 42nd place in the 7.5K skate at Harvard, while sophomore
Trevor Aitken skied a career-best 27th-place finish in the 10K classic at Williams and senior
Jax Lubkowitz posted a career-best 41st in the 20K classic at Colby.
Â
The women's squad started out the season with a fifth-place result at the UVM Carnival for their best performance of the season, while the men's team finished 10th five times throughout the season.
Â
During the 2024 season, the Saints traveled to Carnivals hosted by UVM, Colby, Harvard, Dartmouth, Williams, as well as the NCAA Eastern Regionals hosted at Middlebury.
"The season was definitely a challenge with low snow arriving late, however the race venues all did a great job with snow making and provided some excellent courses. The team heads into next season with large senior class of four women and five men, who are determined to see the team move up in the EISA field."
Â
The Saints' returners will be working hard in the off season to prep for next year and combined with the Scarlet and Brown's incoming class, the Saints will be looking to improve upon their individual and team results next season.
