Tommy Kenosh and
Emma Strack have earned a spot to represent St. Lawrence University at the 2023 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by the Scarlet and Brown in Lake Placid, N.Y. this week.
Kenosh, who qualified for the Saints' Alpine team and Strack, who qualified for Nordic, both earned their second trips to the championships, as Strack competed in Utah last year and Kenosh competed in New Hampshire in 2021.
Kenosh posted two EISA top-10 and five top-15 finishes, including a season-best seventh-place finish in the men's slalom at the Bates College Carnival. Â
"We're so proud of Tommy for qualifying for his second NCAA championships," said Alpine skiing head coach
Willi Steinrotter. "It's great to be hosting and competing at Whiteface and we're excited to see Tommy compete at the national level once again."
Strack posted a career-best performance with a second-place podium finish in the women's 15-kilometer classic at the Saint Michael's Carnival. She recorded four top-five and nine top-15 EISA finishes on the season.
"Emma is headed into NCAAs at her sharpest," said Nordic skiing head coachÂ
Ethan Townsend. "I'm excited to see her compete for the second year in a row and see her hard work this season pay off."
This will mark the third time that St. Lawrence has hosted the NCAA Skiing Championships; the Saints last hosted the event in 2015, and also served as host for the 1983 championships.
"We're proud and honored to be the site host for the 2023 NCAA Skiing Championships," said Senior Associate Vice President for AthleticsÂ
Bob Durocher. "It is a great opportunity to showcase a high level of skiing, as well as the outstanding facilities that Lake Placid has to offer. It's also an extraordinary opportunity for all the student-athletes that will come to compete from across the country."
Participants are selected on a regional basis from two designated regions for Alpine skiing (East and West Regions) and three designated regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East and West Regions). Bids are awarded to regions using a formula determined by the skiing committee. A maximum of 12 student-athletes (three per gender per discipline) may be selected from an institution.
