Hockey Canada has announced that Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, QC/Toronto, PWHL) - St. Lawrence Class of 2004 - will lead Canada's National Women's Team as general manager through the 2025-26 season, culminating in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. 

Kingsbury, a former member of the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team and one of the most prolific scorers in women's hockey history, is also a member of the St. Lawrence Hall of Fame and Legends of Appleton.

Kingsbury departed Hockey Canada in September to become the first general manager of PWHL Toronto, while Troy Ryan, who signed on as the full-time head coach of the National Women's Team last August, will be the head coach at all events and camps while also serving as the head coach of PWHL Toronto. The duo will lead Canada through major international events such as the IIHF Women's World Championship and Rivalry Series, culminating with the 2026 Olympics in Milan, Italy.

"While the landscape of women's professional hockey has changed, Gina and Troy's commitment to Hockey Canada while also holding important roles in the PWHL demonstrates the importance of our program and representing our country while growing the professional game."

Kingsbury helped lead Canada's National Women's Team to back-to-back gold medals at the 2021 and 2022 IIHF Women's World Championships, and added two silver (2018, 2023) and one bronze (2019) at Women's Worlds. She also won silver and gold at the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Winter Games, respectively, and helped guide Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team to three gold medals (2019, 2022, 2023) at the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, along with three silver (2016, 2018, 2020). Kingsbury also served as an assistant coach at the 2016 U18 Women's Worlds, winning a silver medal.

"I am excited to return to the National Women's Team and continue to work towards our collective goal of winning gold medals at the world championship and Olympics," Kingsbury said. "While my role will look a little different than before, I continue to have the same amount of pride in wearing the Maple Leaf and I remain committed to helping build a team that Canadians can be proud to support over the next three seasons."

Canada's National Women's Team will take on the United States in the seven-game Rivalry Series across Canada and the U.S. throughout the 2023-24 season ahead of the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championship, set for April 3-14 in Utica, New York.
