Adam Heilbronner,
Edvin Strandberg,
Ben Moolman, and
Broderick Pinto all advances to their respective flight championships as the St. Lawrence university men's tennis team competed in day one of the Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Union College.
In the A flight, Heilbronner defeated August LePique 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals where he defeated Giannos Binopoulos 7-6 (4-2), 7-5. The junior will take one Henry Bilicic in the final tomorrow.
In the B flight, both Strandberg (0-6, 6-4, 10-5) and Moolman (6-1, 6-2) advanced to the semifinal round. In the semifinal round Strandberg advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tommy McGuire, while Moolman defeated Aidan O'Brien 4-6, 6-2, 11-9. The teammates will face-off for the flight championship on day two.
In the C flight, Pinto advanced to the flight final with wins over Josh Mann and Ian Schunk. The sophomore will take on Dimitris Binopoulos for the championship.
In A doubles, the duos of Heilbronner/Pinto and Moolman/
Nathan Turtledove advanced to the semifinal round. Heilbronner/Pinto won their opening match 8-3, while Moolman/Turtledove won 8-5 in the first round.
In B doubles, Strandberg and
John Hill-Edgar also advanced to the semifinals of their flight as the tandem defeated Marcus Carlsson and Pierce Rutledge 8-5.
The Scarlet and Brown will get back to work tomorrow in day two of the Dutchmen Invitational.
