The St. Lawrence women's track & field team won the seven-team Ice Broken Open on Saturday afternoon on Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex in Canton, N.Y.

Emma Palumbo won her collegiate steeplechase debut in 11:13.82. She pulled away from teammate Billie McClosky after the 1,000-meter mark and sped up each subsequent lap. McClosky finished in second in 11:52.54 for a personal best.

Alexa Smith won the St. Lawrence duel in the 400 meters in 1:04.16, ahead of teammate Kristina Koes.

Hayley Castagnier took second in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 100 meter dash. She finished the 100 meters in 13.13 seconds, and the hurdles in 17.54 seconds.

Alli Sibold won the 800 meters in 2:25.37. She passed teammate Palumbo, who led for about 750 meters, in the final homestretch. Palumbo finished in 2:26.07. Bridget Hastings and Leana Dickhens took third and fourth, respectively.

Katherine Sheehy put on a pacing clinic in the 5,000 meters. After a fast opening 600 meters to separate herself from the rest of the athletes, she ran the next 10 laps between 1:29.30 and 1:30.92, and finished with a 1:25.97 final quarter mile to cross the line in 18:36, an outdoor track personal best. Eliza O'Donnell finished in 19:16.50 for second place.

Kathleen Merchant won three of the throwing events. She won javelin with a 37.74 meter throw, discus with 36.68 meters, and shot put with an 11.46 meter throw. She took second in hammer with a 37.01 meter throw.

Kimberly Merchant won hammer with a 39.69 meter throw. She finished second in javelin and shot, with a 32.88 meter throw in javelin and 11.29 meters in shot.

Olivia Middleton jumped 5.11 meters to win the long jump, and Laken Mooney hopped, skipped, and jumped 9.63 meters to win triple jump.

Maia Wahlquist continued her dominant first-year winning the high jump in 1.58 meters. She finished second in the long jump, reaching 5.02 meters.

The Saints won the team competition with 275 points, ahead of Plattsburgh's 139. Castleton finished third with 65, and NVU-Johnson, Clarkson, Herkimer, and Potsdam rounded out the field.
