The St. Lawrence women's track & field team had twelve top-two performances at the Upstate Alternative Meet on Saturday afternoon in Cortland, N.Y.
The 4x100 meter relay team started the day by winning the first event on the oval.
Hayley Castagnier,
Mackenzie Marcus,
Laken Mooney and
Olivia Middleton got the stick around in 54.13 second to secure the win. Castagnier would go on to win the 100-meters, running a wind-aided 13.26 seconds.
In the 1,500 meters,
Bridget Hastings was the top division III competitor, finishing in 5:13.51 for a personal best, behind a quintet of runners from Syracuse. Leanna Dickens was just behind Hastings in 5:20.98. In the second heat
Adeline Moore finished first of the nine runners in 5:31.90 for a new personal best of her own, taking an even 17 seconds off of the time she ran two weeks ago.
Kristina Koes took fourth in the 400-meters in 1:05.50 behind a pair of Ithaca runners and a runner from Syracuse. She also led off the 4x400 meter relay team which took third. She handed it to Dickhens, who passed it to Castagnier, and Hastings anchored to finish in 4:36.49.
Kinsley Holl won the 5,000 meter race in 20:10.35, fending off a runner from Cortland who was closing fast. Holl moved from fourth place up to first about two thirds of the way through the race and never relinquished the lead.
Alli Sibold, fresh off of a new personal best in the 1,500-meters at the Bison Invitational on Friday afternoon, took second in the 800-meter. She trailed two runners from Syracuse at the mid-way point, and passed one in the final lap to finish in 2:27.72.
Emma Palumbo was fourth in 2:31.81.
In the field
Kathleen Merchant threw the javelin over 35 meters to take first.
Kimberly Merchant threw the jav 28.69 meters for second. Kathleen also won the shot put with a best throw of 11.56 meters. Kimberly took second again, hitting 11.04 meters.
In the discus, it was Kimberly who had the better throw, winning with a best throw of 37.75 meters. She threw further than 37 meters three times. Kathleen took second, with her final throw going 35.92 meters.
Mooney took second in the long jump, hitting 5.01 meters on her third jump.
Olivia Middleton took fourth in the event, hitting 4.86 meters on her penultimate jump.
Maia Wahlquist won the high jump competition, clearing all of her heights on the first attempts with the highest being 1.55 meters
The Saints will return to Cortland for the Cortland Classic on April 22-23.
