Kathleen Merchant won the shot put to lead the St. Lawrence women's track & field team on the first day of the Liberty League Track & Field Championships.
Merchant threw 12.17 meters on her first throw to secure the first place.
Kimberly Merchant threw the shot 11.61 meters to take third.
Katherine Sheehy ran a massive personal best in the 5,000 meters, taking second in 18:17.83.
Billie McClosky and
Olivia Bernier also ran personal bests, McClosky finished on the podium in 7
th running 18:42.20, and Bernier took 11
th in 19:03.
Emma Palumbo and
Alli Sibold took finished third and fourth in the mile, respectively. Palumbo ran a 5:10.30 and Sibold ran 5:13.54, both seasons bests and both regional qualifiers.
The women's distance medley relay team finished fifth in 13:31.17.
Eliza O'Donnell took the lead off 1,200 meter leg, she handed the baton to
Sarah Churchill for 400 meters, who gave it to
Bridget Hastings for the 800 meter leg, and
Adeline Moore anchored the 1,600 meter leg.
Laken Mooney took fourth in the long jump. She jumped 5.10 meters for a career best.
Lucia D'Acchille qualified for finals in the 60 hurdles, which will take place on day two of the meet, by finishing sixth in the prelims in 9.84 seconds.
The Saints finish the day in third place with 46 points, trailing hosts Ithaca and Rochester. The two-day championship meet will conclude on Saturday.
