The St. Lawrence women's swimming team opened up the 2022 part of their season with a 119-79 victory against Potsdam on Friday night in Potsdam, N.Y. The Saints won nine out of the 11 swimming events.
Lulu Rauch won both of the distance events, the 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle, swimming a season best in the 500. Her time of five minutes and 29.74 seconds shaves almost four seconds off of the time she swam in November. This is the third meet she has won both of these events.
Â
Maggie Wenger also had a familiar sweep, winning both the 100 and 200 freestyle. This is the fourth meet she has won that double, both within one second of her season bests.
Cordelia Keberle's winning time of two minutes and 32.12 seconds in the 200 butterfly top's her previous season best by over five seconds.
Fiona Reiner also swam her best of the season, in the 200 backstroke, which she won in two minutes and 17.92 seconds.
The Saints improve to 3-2 on the season in dual meets, and swim next on Saturday, January 22
nd when they host Saint Michael's College in Canton, N.Y.
Head coach Bob Clemmer
"Today's meet was very surprising as the team had exceptional swims just coming off of a very demanding training trip. We went to Florida and trained in the morning in a 50 meter pool and in the afternoon in a 25 yard pool so usually our first meet back is rough but the ladies had a great meet."
