The St. Lawrence women's track and field team opened the 2022 part of their indoor season with a third-place performance at the 16 team Utica Opener on Saturday.
In the first event of the day, the Saints secured three of the eight scoring positions in the 5,000 meter run, paced by
Billie McClosky in fourth in a time of 19:31.1.
Katherine Sheehy was just behind her in fifth, and
Olivia Bernier took seventh.
Two Saints qualified for the finals in the 60 meter hurdles. In finals
Isabel Caprood took second in 10.05 seconds, and
Hayley Castagnier took sixth in 10.90 seconds.
Alli Sibold won her heat of the 800 in 2:26.73 which was good enough for second overall. First year
Bridget Hastings took third in her collegiate indoor track debut, running the 1,000 meter in 3:23.06.
On the infield, first year
Maia Wahlquist secured 10 points for the Saints, jumping 1.59 meters to take her first collegiate win. She missed just one jump prior to hitting 1.59.
Kathleen Merchant finished third in the weight throw, and fifth in shot. Her sister
Kimberly Merchant finished seventh in each of the scoring events.
St. John Fisher won the meet with 111.5 points, and RPI finished second with 74.5. The Saints tied with Division I Siena College with 65.
