The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team finished its 2020-21 campaign 2-6 overall and 2-5 in Liberty League play in a spring-only season due to the COVID pandemic.
The Saints will begin their 2021-22 season on September 11
th when the team hosts the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic at Sammis Tennis Courts. The Scarlet and Brown will then head to Schenectady on September 18
th to take on Union College. St. Lawrence will close out the fall portion of their schedule on October 1
st when the team travels to Geneva to play in the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by Hobart College. Â
"It is going to be great to get back to having a full roster this year and returning to a more normal schedule and competitive season," said head coach
Neil Caniga. "Last year our team grew so much, and we are welcoming back several returners back for the first time in a while, along with a strong group of First-Years. This season will be an amazing opportunity to continue to grow our culture both on and off the court. Â
The Saints will be welcoming back ten players from last year's team after graduating four members of the 2021 class including
Leo Romanetz was awarded the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete Award last season and was a three-time All-Liberty League selection. The team will also welcome four members of the Class of 2025 in
Kenden Aguilera,
John Hill-Edgar,
Broderick Pinto, and
Edvin Strandberg.
The Scarlet and Brown will be led by
Nathan Turtledove who earned Second-Team All-Liberty League honors in singles, and was recognized as an honorable mention selection alongside Romanetz in doubles. The Saints also bring back seniors
Quinn Bermingham and
Nico Haet who will serve as team captains.Â
