The Saints won the doubles round, but won just two matches in singles play as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Luther on Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
St. Lawrence fell to 3-7, while Luther improved to 11-2.
The Saints got wins at one and two in doubles to go up 1-0 early in the match.
Josh David and
Jake David took on Joao Benvenutti and Abhay Chhabra at one and won 6-4, while Aidan Barcao and
Willem Naughton also won 6-4 in their match at two against Jake Nelson and Rhys Biro-Moore.
Josh David won his second match of the day at number one singles against Benvenutti, winning 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 14-12.
Rowan Bepler accounted for the other St. Lawrence win in singles as he defeated Nelson 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 at six.
St. Lawrence will head back north and will be back on court on Friday, April 3, when they head to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., to take on Bard in a 1 p.m. match.
