The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell to Hobart 5-2 on Sunday at the Newell Field House in Canton, N.Y.
The Saints dropped to 4-10 on the season with the defeat, while Hobart improved to 8-6 with the win.
Hobart claimed the doubles point by taking two of three matches. At No. 1, Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton edged
Josh David and
Jake David in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5). The Statesmen then secured the point at No. 2, where Everett Reid and Achilleas Kousaridis defeated
Aidan Baracao and
Willem Naughton, 6-4. St. Lawrence did take the point at No. 3, where
Bennett Stout and
Charles Schepens handled Tejus Ranadive and Tarang Malhotra, 6-2, to prevent the sweep.
Hobart carried its momentum into singles, winning four of six courts to close out the match. Fischer extended his strong day at No. 1, rallying past
Josh David 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 after dropping the opening set. Aidan Staunton took No. 2 in another three-setter, edging
Jake David 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-1 in the match tiebreak.
St. Lawrence's two singles victories came at the same courts as the previous day.
Charles Schepens delivered the most competitive win for the Saints, outlasting Kousaridis in a tight three-set battle at No. 4, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Bennett Stout closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marco Olmos at No. 6, going undefeated across both doubles and singles on the day.
