Julia Gosling has been chosen for centralization by Hockey Canada in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games to be held from February 4-20 in Beijing, China.
Gosling, a forward who earned First-Team All-ECAC Hockey honors for the 2020-21 season, is one of 28 players selected for centralization, which includes three goaltenders, nine defensemen and 16 forwards. Canada's final Olympic roster of 23 is tentatively scheduled to be released in late December.
"What a great opportunity and honor for Julia to be selected for Hockey Canada Olympic centralization," said St. Lawrence head coach
Chris Wells '92. "We saw how excited she was when she heard the news, but we also saw how excited her teammates were for her! Her attitude, effort and humility are contagious here at St. Lawrence. Watching people live out their dreams brings a smile to everyone's face!"
The roster was selected by head coach Tory Ryan in consultation with St. Lawrence women's hockey alumna and Legend of AppletonÂ
Gina Kingsbury '04, director of women's national teams with Hockey Canada.
"When we started this Olympic quad in the fall of 2018, our road to 2022 looked very different," said Kingsbury in a press release. "Through adversity, in particular a lack of international competition over the last 14 months, our athletes have stayed focused, committed to their training and ready to compete when the time came."
All players and staff will relocate to Calgary at the end of July and prepare for the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championships, scheduled for August 20-31, at a yet-to-be determined location, before resuming their Olympic training.
