Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Set Attendance Record; Clarkson Claims School Day Victory

The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team set a new women's hockey attendance record with 3,404 students from surrounding North Country schools, as the Scarlet and Brown hosted No. 13 Clarkson in their annual school day game on Thursday morning at Appleton Arena.

The Golden Knights claimed a 4-0 win in game one of the Route 11 rivals four-game slate this season.

"A great event again put on by St. Lawrence University," said head coach Chris Wells. "What a turnout and the atmosphere was great for Appleton. Tanner Cloce did a wonderful job coordinating everything to make it such an enjoyable day for the community."

Janelle Evans struck first, as she looked for the tip in front, she banked the pass of a skate and in, giving Clarkson a 1-0 lead on the power play with 36.9 seconds to play in the first period.

The Golden Knights scored late in the second to increase their lead to two goals, as Jessie Pellerin shoveled the puck in after a swarm of traffic in front of Saints' goaltender Kassidy Lawrence.

Clarkson made it a three-goal game, as Evans skated the length of the ice, passed off to Manon Le scodan, who fired a shot over the glove of Lawrence for the 3-0 advantage.

With 3:47 to play in the third, Wells pulled Lawrence for the extra attacker, but Pellerin tallied her second of the game with the empty netter and the 4-0 final.

"As for the game we showed glimpses of what we can do and the team we can become. We will continue to build and get to where we can start to control games a bit more than we have. Clarkson battled hard and won a lot of battles that bounced in their favor and stopped us from making plays. We are quite happy to be able to play another game tomorrow at Clarkson!"

Lawrence made 32 saves for St. Lawrence, while Clarkson's Kalia Pharand finished with 26.

Clarkson led 60-47 in shots and 36-26 in shots on goal. Both teams blocked 11 shots apiece.

Today's matchup was a non-conference meeting, as St. Lawrence moved to 1-4-0 on the season and Clarkson improved to 3-2-0.

The Saints and the Golden Knights will meet up tomorrow evening in Potsdam. Puck drops for game two at 6 p.m.
