ENTERING TODAY'S GAME

  • St. Lawrence heads into the ECAC Hockey championship playing its best hockey of the season with an active four-game winning streak.
  • All four wins came against Route 11 rival Clarkson, including the team's 4-3 overtime win in the tournament semifinals on Friday.
  • St. Lawrence is making its first trip to the ECAC Hockey Championship game since 2012, when it defeated top-seeded Cornell 3-1 to win the title. The Saints are 1-3 in four previous appearances in the championship.
  • Anna Segedi leads the team with 12 points on four goals and eight assists in 12 games. Gosling leads St. Lawrence with seven goals and also has three assists for 10 points in nine games.
  • Lucy Morgan has started 10 of 12 games in goal, posting a .936 save percentage and a 2.14 goals against average.

SCOUTING COLGATE

  • Colgate defeated Quinnipiac 2-1 to advance to today's ECAC Hockey championship game. The Raiders led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second on goals by Kaitlyn O'Donohoe and Sammy Smigliani. Quinnipiac made it interesting with an extra attacker goal with 45 seconds to play, but Colgate held on.
  • Danielle Serdachny was named the ECAC Hockey Best Forward and is a finalist for the Player of the Year Award. Greg Fargo earned Coach of the Year honors, Tanner Gates joined Serdachny as a First-Team All-ECAC Hockey selection, and Kayle Osborne and Kalty Kaltounkova were members of the All-Rookie Team, with Osborne earning Rookie of the Year honors.
  • The Raiders 10-1-1 this season, but are just 4-5-0 in their last nine games.
  • Serdachny leads the team with nine goals and 20 points. Neomi Neubauerova also has nine goals and is second on the team with 17 points.
  • Osborne has played 98.4% of the Raiders' minutes on the ice between the pipes, posting a .925 save percentage and a 1.75 goals against average.

SERIES HISTORY

  • St. Lawrence holds a 26-13-7 record  in the all-time series with Colgate and is 8-7-5 in games in Hamilton.
  • Colgate won this year's regular season series, 3-1. Three of the games were one-goal games, including a pair of overtime losses for the Saints, and the Raiders won the last meeting 5-0 at Class of 1965 Arena.
  • Shailynn Snow scored a pair of unassisted goals in the lone win for the Saints, a 3-2 victory on February 19.
  • Eleri MacKay and Kaitlyn O'Donohoe both have two goals and an assist in the season series, while Sammy Smigliani had a goal and two assists in the four games against the Saints.
  • Kayle Osborne has been incredible in goal against the Saints, posting a 1.26 goals against average and a .943 save percentage with two shutouts this season.

ABOUT THAT FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK

  • St. Lawrence's 4-3 overtime win over Clarkson in the ECAC Hockey semifinals was the team's fourth straight win, all over the Golden Knights.
  • The last time St. Lawrence won four straight games was November 2-17, 2018. (Note: The Saints did win four straight last season, but one of those games was an exhibition win over the Korean National Team.)
  • St. Lawrence has not played from behind since the conclusion of the team's 5-0 loss to Colgate on February 21, a stretch of 254:22. The Saints played 256:54 without trailing during the 2018-19 season, starting at the beginning of the win streak and ending in the first period of an 8-2 loss to Minnesota.

THREE EARN ECAC HOCKEY HONORS

  • Lucy Morgan was named the ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Year and was a First-Team All-ECAC Hockey selection for the Saints.
  • Julia Gosling, a finalist for the league's Player of the Year and Best Forward awards, was also a First-Team All-ECAC Hockey selection.
  • Kristina Bahl earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team, marking the third time in the last four years that the Saints have had a player make the squad. Morgan earned a spot last year, and Skylar Podvey was on the team in 2018.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

  • St. Lawrence finished the season 4-1-0 in games at Appleton Arena, and is just 2-5-0 in games on the road.
  • Colgate was the only team to beat the Saints at Appleton this year, winning 1-0 in overtime on January 24.
  • St. Lawrence did not win a game at Class of 1965 Arena this season. In fact, the Saints' only win at Class of 1965 Arena since it opened in the fall of 2016 was the first game the team played there, a 3-0 victory on February 18, 2017.

STRIKE HARD, STRIKE FIRST, NO MERCY

  • The first goal has been a good predictor of who will win St. Lawrence and Colgate women's hockey games this season.
  • The Saints have scored first in seven games, going 6-1-0 in those contests. St. Lawrence has allowed the first goal in five games, losing all five.
  • Colgate is 10-1-1 when scoring first and 4-5-0 when their opponent scores first. The Raiders have not lost a game this season when leading after two periods, boasting a 9-0-0 record in those games.

COVID-19'S IMPACT ON SCHEDULE, PERSONNEL

  • St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92 P'23 and senior captain Skylar Podvey were not available in Friday's game and will not be available for Sunday's championship game due to COVID-19 protocols. Saints assistant coaches Mare MacDougall Bari and Ted Wisner will share game-day coaching duties in Wells' absence.
  • St. Lawrence was forced to postpone several games in late January and early February due to COVID-19 protocols. As a result of those postponements, and a campus-wide lockdown at Clarkson in mid-February, the Saints were unable to play the full 12-game conference schedule, missing one game against Clarkson and one game with Quinnipiac.

SECONDARY SCORING TAKES CENTER STAGE

  • The Saints' top line of Julia Gosling, Anna Segedi and Brittney Gout has been quite successful this season. In the team's first 10 games, they accounted for 10 of the Saints 19 goals and 29 of the team's 46 points, but in the last two games, other players have stepped into the spotlight, scoring seven of the Saints' nine goals and netting 15 of the 18 points.
  • Charlea Pedersen scored a pair of goals in Monday's 5-1 win over Clarkson, and Jessica Poirier scored two in the 4-3 overtime win in the semifinals. Both players also had an assist earlier this week, as well.
  • Taylor Lum has one goal and three assists in the last two games, and Shailynn Snow and Kristina Bahl both had three assists in the last two games. Aly McLeod registered her first assist in Monday's game, then scored the overtime game-winner on Friday. Gabi Jones added an empty-net goal for the Saints on Monday.

MORGAN RECORD BOOK WATCH

  • Lucy Morgan recorded four shutouts last season as a rookie, tied for fifth on the Saints' single-season shutout list. The four shutouts also gets her on the Saints' career top-10 list in the category, tied for 10th.
  • She moved into 10th on the all-time saves list earlier this season and enters Sunday's game with 919 career saves.
  • Her save percentage of .936 this season would rank second the Saints' single-season list. Jess Moffat '06 set the program record in 2005-06 with a .942 save percentage.

SHOT DIFFERENTIAL

  • St. Lawrence has been outshot in 11 of 12 games this season. The Saints were outshot by Clarkson 39-23 on Friday.
  • On average, the Saints have been outshot 35.3-22.9, an average differential of -12.3.
