Kenosh Earns All-America Honors, Places Sixth at NCAAs

Sophomore Tommy Kenosh skied to a sixth-place finish and earned All-America honors in the men's slalom for the St. Lawrence University Alpine ski team at the 2021 NCAA Skiing Championships at Cannon Mountain in Mittersill, New Hampshire on Friday.

Kenosh's posted a time of 45.18 seconds in the first run of the day to position him in sixth-place awaiting the second run. He posted an identical time in the second run to finish in 1:30.36 for sixth place and earned the first All-America honors for the Saints since Ashley-Kate Durham '13 in 2011.

"It was a great day for Tommy," said head coach Willi Steinrotter. "He's worked hard all season and what a day to put together two great runs at the National Championships. With the warm temperatures, they had to use salt on the course today and that made the course a bit more challenging for both the men and the women."

Both Griffin Knorpp and Brian Seltzer improved on their second runs of the day and skied to 22nd and 26th place finishes, respectively. Knorpp posted a time of 1:34.86, while Seltzer finished in 2:00.52.

On the women's side, senior Ella Pepin skied to a 25th-place finish in 1:53.87 after improving her runs from 28th place to 17th place in the second run. After a couple slips that had the Saints backtrack up the course, Victoria Cubina recorded a 28th-place finish in 2:12.59 and Ava Mattsson placed 30th in 2:48.24.

"I'm so proud of our six athletes that competed," Steinrotter added. "It was a challenging year and they kept focus and persevered through the obstacles that this year presented and it was awesome to see our seniors Griffin and Ella have the opportunity to compete at the NCAAs after four years of working hard towards this goal."

After the third day of competition, Utah, Colorado and Montana State hold down the top three spots, while St. Lawrence is currently in 12th place.

Today's slalom wrapped up the 2021 collegiate season for the Saints' Alpine team.
