SAINTS GAME NOTES

LAST TIME OUT

  • St. Lawrence split a home-and-home series with fifth-ranked Colgate last weekend, beating the Raiders 3-2 at Appleton before falling 5-0 at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton.
  • Shailynn Snow scored a pair of unassisted goals in the win on Friday, and Julia Gosling added the other goal for the Saints. Lucy Morgan made 36 saves in the victory.
  • On Sunday, Colgate jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game and never looked back. Five different players scored goals for the Raiders.

ST. LAWRENCE LEADERS

  • Anna Segedi leads St. Lawrence with six points on two goals and four assists. Gosling is the team's leading goal scorer with four and is tied with Snow for second in scoring with five points. Snow has three goals and two assists.
  • Morgan has a .937 save percentage and a 2.31 goals against average. She leads the league with 29.9 saves per game.
  • The Saints' power play ranks fifth nationally, converting on 20.0% of their chances.

SCOUTING CLARKSON

  • Clarkson returns to the ice this weekend after nearly three weeks off due to COVID-19 protocols on its campus.
  • Like St. Lawrence, the Golden Knights' last series was a home-and-home with Colgate, that they also split, beating the Raiders 5-2 at home after a 4-2 loss on the road.
  • Clarkson has won four of its last five games and enters the weekend ranked ninth nationally and in second place in the ECAC Hockey standings.
  • Elizabeth Giguere leads Clarkson with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. Caitrin Lonergan leads the Golden Knights with 12 goals and is tied for second on the team with 17 points. Gabrielle David (4g-13a) also has 17 points. Giguere and Lonergan were named Patty Kazmaier Award finalists earlier this week.
  • Michelle Pasiechnyk and Marie-Pier Coulombe have split starts this year. Coulombe (2.64 GAA, .899 save percentage) started the last game, but Pasiechnyk (1.59 GAA, .950 save percentage) had started the previous six games.

SERIES HISTORY

  • St. Lawrence holds a 20-31-7 record in the all-time series with Clarkson. The Saints are 17-11-1 against the Golden Knights at Appleton and 3-20-6 at Cheel.
  • Last year, the Saints split the season series, falling 2-1 at Cheel on January 17, then coming back for a 1-0 win over the Golden Knights the following day at Appleton Arena. The game was the first in the building since renovations began after the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
  • St. Lawrence opened the season with a non-league game against Clarkson at Cheel Arena on January 20 earlier this year. Clarkson, which was playing its ninth game of the season, won 8-1.
  • Caitrin Lonergan scored two goals and added an assist, while Elizabeth Giguere scored a goal and added three assists for Clarkson. Kristen Guerriero scored the lone goal for the Saints.

ECAC HOCKEY PLAYOFF SCENARIOS

  • There are multiple possible playoff scenarios heading into the final weekend of the regular season, and the only things that are certain are that Colgate will host a semifinal game next weekend, and Quinnipiac cannot claim the No. 1 seed.
  • Clarkson controls its own destiny. If the Golden Knights win all three games in regulation, they will claim the No. 1 seed in the tournament. If they claim four of the nine available points this weekend, they will clinch a home semifinal game.
  • St. Lawrence will claim a home semifinal game with an eight- or nine-point weekend. The Saints would also claim the No. 2 seed with seven points this weekend if Colgate earns at least one point in its two-game series with Quinnipiac.
  • It is still possible for St. Lawrence to claim the No. 1 seed in the tournament by claiming eight or nine points this weekend. The Saints would need some help, however. With an eight-point weekend, St. Lawrence would need Quinnipiac to claim all six points in the Bobcats' series with Colgate. If the Saints win all three games against Clarkson in regulation, Quinnipiac would need to win five of the six points up for grabs against Colgate.
  • If the Saints win six or fewer points this weekend, they will be on the road for the semifinals.

CELEBRATING THE SENIOR CLASS

  • The Saints' Class of 2021 will be celebrated following the conclusion of Sunday's game against the Golden Knights.
  • Brittney Gout, Charlea Pedersen, Skylar Podvey and Jessica Poirier will be thanked for their contributions with a brief postgame ceremony, and interviews with the members of the senior class will air during the intermissions of Sunday's game, with each intermission featuring a pair of the players.

PENALTY KILL STRUGGLING

  • The Saints' penalty kill has struggled this year, ranking dead last nationally (30th/30) with a 73.1 percent success rate.
  • St. Lawrence's PK percentage improved slightly last week, as the Saints killed off 5-of-6 Colgate power plays.

SHOT DIFFERENTIAL

  • St. Lawrence has been outshot in every game this season and has been outshot by an average of 16.12 shots per game, which ranks 25th out of 30 teams nationally.
  • The Saints' smallest shot differential this season came in Sunday's 5-0 loss to Colgate (25-34).

UP NEXT

  • The ECAC Hockey tournament will take place next weekend. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will host the No. 4 and No. 3 seeds, respectively, on Friday, March 5.
  • The championship game will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Sunday, March 7.
  • The winner of the ECAC Hockey tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
