Saints Fall to Saint Rose in League of Legends Match

The St. Lawrence University League of Legends team fell to the College of Saint Rose 2-0 in a College League of Legends (CLOL) match on Saturday afternoon.

Cole Weigartz (Extra Ugli Fruit) led the Saints with nine kills in the match, playing Orianna in Game 1 and Zilean in Game 2, while Connor Lambert (Lamb0) had eight total kills, with three in the first game and five in the second, playing Hecarim in both games.

Momentum in both games went back and forth, as the Saints were able to make up significant ground after falling behind early in both games.

"College of Saint Rose has five extremely talented players and it showed in the match today," said Saints' League of Legends coach Eric Shinnick. "In particular their support playing on the Alistar created significant trouble for SLU throughout both games. While we knew we were heavy underdogs coming into the day, I felt our teamwork and map rotations outperformed the side of Saint Rose, giving us a chance to win both games. The hard work the team has put in showed in this match today and I'd like to give a particular nod to Anthony Zevallos who performed admirably in the top lane for SLU today."

In Game 1, the Saints trailed Saint Rose 14-7 in kills, but pulled back to almost even by claiming three kills, the Baron Nashor, two turrets and a dragon before the Golden Knights responded by closing out the match with the next 11 kills before destroying the Nexus to take a 1-0 lead.

The second game was close in the early stages before Saint Rose took a 10-5 lead in kills. The Saints once again responded, however, pulling even with five straight kills and claiming two turrets. The Golden Knights, however, were able to claim their third dragon and the Baron Nashor to swing momentum back to their side.

SR Gun had 11 kills in the first game playing as Pantheon to lead the Golden Knights, while KURAISIENZ had seven kills as Akali in Game 2.

Saint Rose and Ithaca College are now tied atop the CLOL Group C standings with 4-0 records with one match remaining. The Saints are tied for third with Saint Joseph's with a 2-2 record. The top two teams in group play will advance to the playoffs. The Saints and Hawks will square off in the season finale next Saturday at 3 p.m. for bragging rights for third place in the group.
