Saints Set to Face Fifth-Ranked Colgate

The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team will face fifth-ranked Colgate in a home-and-home ECAC Hockey series this weekend. The Saints will host the Raiders on Friday at 5 p.m., then will play at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

SAINTS GAME NOTES

LAST TIME OUT

  • St. Lawrence resumed its season last weekend with a three-game series at Quinnipiac after going 20 days without a game due to COVID-19 postponements.
  • The Saints won the first game of the series 4-1. Julia Gosling and Anna Segedi both had two goals and one assist in the game for the Saints, while Lucy Morgan made 33 saves.
  • The Bobcats won the final two games by 5-3 and 1-0 scores. Jessica Poirier led the Saints with a goal and an assist in the second game, while Gosling and Shailynn Snow also scored goals.
  • Caitlin Whitehead and Jaimie Rainville split time in goal in the second game for the Saints, combining to make 33 saves. Morgan stopped 36 shots in the finale on Sunday.

ST. LAWRENCE LEADERS

  • Segedi leads the Saints with five points on two goals and three assists, while Gosling leads the team with three goals in three games played.
  • Morgan leads ECAC Hockey and ranks fifth nationally with a .957 save percentage and ranks second in the league with a 1.59 GAA.

SCOUTING COLGATE

  • Colgate is coming off a 12-day layoff after having last weekend off. The Raiders opened the season 10-1-1, but lost three of their last four games, all against Clarkson.
  • Two weeks ago, Colgate opened a home-and-home series with Clarkson with a 4-2 win at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton. Sammy Smigliani scored a goal and added an assist, and Noemi Neubauerova, Malia Schneider and Kaitlyn O'Donohoe also scored goals for the Raiders.
  • Clarkson won the second game, 5-2, despite being outshot 36-25. Smigliani and Danielle Serdachny both had a goal and an assist for Colgate.
  • Serdachny leads the Raiders with 15 points on six goals and nine assists. Neubauerova has a team-high eight goals plus six assists for 14 points. Kalty Kaltounkova (4-9-13), Tanner Gates (0-11-11) and Rosy Demers (2-8-10) have also recorded double-digit point totals.
  • Kayle Osborne has played every minute in net for the Raiders this season, posting a 1.62 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY

  • St. Lawrence holds a 25-12-7 record in the all-time series with Colgate. The Saints are 17-6-2 in home games 8-6-5 on the road.
  • Colgate won the first two games of the season series in overtime, 3-2 and 1-0.
  • In the first game, Eleri MacKay gave Colgate a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals, but Rachel Bjorgan cut the lead to one with a goal in the final minute of the first period, and Skylar Podvey sent the game to overtime with an extra attacker goal late in the third period. Kalty Kaltounkova scored the game-winner 2:46 into overtime. Colgate outshot the Saints 38-18, and Lucy Morgan made 35 saves for the Saints.
  • Morgan again helped the Saints claim a point by forcing overtime in the second game stopping 37 shots before Kaitlyn O'Donohoe scored at the 2:49 mark of overtime. Colgate outshot the Saints 38-21.

BACK TO REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING

  • St. Lawrence and Colgate both had major schedule changes last week due to pause on athletic activities at Clarkson.
  • St. Lawrence was set to play Clarkson four times in eight days, while Colgate was scheduled to play a two-game weekend series at Quinnipiac.
  • Instead, the Saints ended up heading to Hamden, Connecticut, for a three-game series at Quinnipiac, while Colgate got the weekend off.
  • Makeup dates for the St. Lawrence-Clarkson games have not yet been announced, while Colgate will play two games at Quinnipiac on February 26-27.

GOSLING, MORGAN EARN ECAC WEEKLY HONORS

  • Julia Gosling was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, and Lucy Morgan earned MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week honors from the league for their performances at Quinnipiac last weekend.
  • Gosling led the league with three goals and four points, including two goals and one assist in the Saints 4-1 win over the Bobcats on Saturday.
  • Morgan made 33 saves in the Saints' win and did not play in Sunday's game.
  • The awards only included performances in Saturday's and Sunday's games. Monday's game will be taken into consideration for the weekly awards next week.

SAINTS STRUGGLING WITH SHOT DIFFERENTIAL

  • St. Lawrence has been outshot in every game this season and has been outshot by an average of 17.83 shots per game, which ranks 26th out of 30 teams nationally.
  • The Saints' smallest shot differential this season came in Saturday's 4-1 win over Quinnipiac (21-34).

UP NEXT

  • St. Lawrence will be looking ot make up games against Clarkson next week, if it is possible to do so. No makeup dates have been announced going into the weekend.
