Box Score Senior Aidan Callahan scored two goals, including one on a penalty kick, to help lift the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 4-1 season-opening win over Springfield in game one of the North Country Classic at Sandy MacAllaster Field Friday afternoon.

First-year goalkeeper Ben Woelfinger made his first career start and stopped two shots en route to his first collegiate win.  

"We're very pleased with the boys," said head coach Mike Toshack. "It was nice to score the four goals, but most pleased with the work from the team when the ball was turned over. It was a good opportunity to work and get better to prepare for the Liberty League season."

First-year Miles Levy beat the defender and found sophomore Andrew Lenfant, who scored his first collegiate goal, on the goal line to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

Callahan notched his first of the season with an unassisted tally in the 22nd minute, lifting the Saints to a 2-0 lead, before scoring on the penalty kick in the 52nd minute, making it 3-0 Saints.

Andrew Ma spoiled the Saints shutout opportunity on a free-kick opportunity just outside the 18-yard box just over eight minutes later.   

First-year Michael McDougald was sent streaking down the field on a lofted pass from Robert Reynolds, McDougald then made a quick pass to Levy, who slipped a shot past a defender and Pride goalkeeper Clayton Knibbs for his first collegiate goal, making it 4-1 Saints.



The Saints outshot the Pride 19-8, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Knibbs finished with four saves for Springfield.

St. Lawrence improved to 1-0-0 on the season, while Springfield fell to 0-1-0. 

The Scarlet and Brown will return to Sandy MacAllaster Field for the second half of the North Country Classic as they face Otterbein University at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 31.
