May 1: Senior Divya Biswal won the long jump and broke a 19-year old record in the 100 hurdle preliminaries as the 2015 New York State Collegiate Track Conference outdoor championships got underway at SLU's Merrick-Pinkard Track on Friday.

Biswal jumped 5.41 meters to lead a 26-jumper field in one of six events which were finals on Friday. She took time out from her long jump efforts to run 14.62 in the 100 hurdle prelims, easily advancing to Saturday's final and trimming .17 off the Saint program record set by Reili Liiva in 1997.

Other scoring finishes for the Saints on Friday included a third place in the 4x800 relay as the team of Megan Kellogg, Ashley Leta, Alexis Bruno and Cassia Hameline ran 9:24.00, just over five seconds off the SLU record. Jenna Jasinski added a second place finish in the javelin with a throw of 35.65 meters, Lisa Grohn was third in the 10,000 meters in 38:25.76 and Jessica Tyree was sixth in the hammer with a 45.44 meter throw.

The Saints, Ithaca and RIT are in the thick of the team race after day one. Ithaca, which has won six straight titles has the first day lead with RIT second and the Saints third.

In qualifying events for Saturday finals, Marisa Turner advanced in the 200 meters with a 25.88 clocking and in the 400 meters with a time of 59.02. Jaleigh Pier also advanced in the 400, running 1:00.82. Jacqui Ebeling joined Biswal in advancing in the 100 hurdles, running 16.31 while Ebeling and Molly Lennon advanced in the 400 hurdles with Lennon running 1:07.16 and Ebeling 1:07.41.

Competition will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
