Sept. 17: The St. Lawrence University field hockey team fell
to Lebanon Valley on Saturday by the score of 4-0 at the 2011 William Smith Classic
in Geneva, NY.
The Saints fall to 3-2 on the season, while the Flying Dutchmen
improve to 2-3 after outshooting the Scarlet and Brown by an impressive 27-3
margin. Sophomore goalie Nicole Matos
recorded a new career-high 19 saves in the loss, while Christine Poletti made
one save in the win for Lebanon Valley.
St. Lawrence was able to hold off the Dutchmen for a
majority of the first half, but Lebanon Valley finally cashed in at 29:17 to
take a 1-0 lead into intermission. Standing
just off the goal line, Bridget Monighan swept in a feed from Mandi Albright
for a 1-0 cushion.
The Dutchmen broke open the game in the second half, scoring
three times in under 10:00 minutes.Â
Kelsey Miller made it a 2-0 game with a goal off a penalty corner in the
40th minute, driving home a pass from Jess Cox. Kirsten Martzall and Laura James completed
the scoring with unassisted goals only 3:28 apart.
St. Lawrence matched Lebanon Valley with five penalty
corners in the first half, but the Flying Dutchmen held a 6-1 advantage in the
second half in that category.
The Saints will look to rebound tomorrow, Sunday, September
18 when they square off with Manhattanville in Geneva, NY at 1:00pm.
