Blondek Dribbles Around Keeper, Deposits Dramatic OT Goal in Saints' Win Over Cortland

Mayson Blondek's overtime goal capped a thrilling finish as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over Cortland on Wednesday afternoon. The win marked the Saints' fifth of the season and their second in the last three games.

"That was one incredible game. I'm so proud of this team who have played their hearts out every game and every day in practice. We were absolutely connected both offensively and defensively today. We played an incredible overtime and Mayson's pull around the keeper was incredible. It was so fun to see that ball go in the net."

After a scoreless first half, Cortland broke through in the 34th minute when Adrienne Mayes fired a blast from the top of the circle into the right corner off a feed from Sadie Hoffmann.

St. Lawrence answered early in the fourth quarter as Charlotte Lehr scored on a rebound off the left post to tie the game 1-1.

In the extra frame, Blondek sealed the win at 66:57, taking a through ball from Maggie Spire and springing behind the defence, heading into the attacking third one-on-one with the keeper, dribbling around her, and sliding the shot into the cage.

Elizabeth Walsh anchored the Saints defensively with 13 saves, including several key stops in regulation, as St. Lawrence weathered a 23-8 Cortland advantage in shots and a 17-4 deficit in penalty corners.

The victory closed out the Saints' season on a high note, improving their final record to 5-9.
