The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team opens its season this weekend, hosting the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic on the Sammis Tennis Courts and in the Newell Field House on September 12 and 13.
Last season, the Saints finished 4-12 overall and 1-7 in the Liberty League.
The Scarlet and Brown return most of their wins, including
Josh David and
Bennett Stout, who each had double-digit wins last season. David led the team with a 12-10 singles mark, going 5-3 in tournament play, while Stout has an 11-8 record and a 4-2 tournament record.
In doubles play, the team welcomes back its top four doubles pairings. At the top was the brother tandem of Jake and
Josh David, who led the team with an 11-9 doubles mark. Stout and
Charles Schepens were the second-best pairing with a 6-4 record, while
Ryan Tingley and Sebastían Boada went 3-1.
The Saints have a pair of seniors in
Jake David and
MJ Chaho, while Boada, Naughton, Schepens, and Tingley. The sophomore group consists of
Rowan Bepler,
Josh David,
Preston Mcarthy,
Jackson Murray, and Stout.
Joining this year's team are first-years
Kameron Fernandez,
Marco Lee, and
Justin Son, who will look to make an immediate impact.
Following the Fall Classic, the Saints will take part in next week's Union Invitational on September 19-20, then will take part in the ITA Northeast Regionals beginning September 25 to close out the Fall.
