St. Lawrence sent three athletes into action on the opening day of the AARTFC championships on Wednesday, concluding some careers on a good note.
Patrick Russell competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing in 9:20.23 to finish fourth in his heat and recording a new PR in his final collegiate outing. Erik Marelli ran a 15.07 in the 110 meter hurdles preliminaries, placing 15th in his heat and just off his personal record.
On the field, senior Erik Schneider launched the javelin 47.21 meters to place 25th.
"We have a very select group competing this week and the guys performed very well in some elite fields," said Saints head coach John Newman. "IÂ was pumped to see Erik put a nice series together in jav to close out his career as a Saint. Â Pat put up a lifetime best steeplechase effort which improved his personal record and bettered his seed. Having a hand in his development over his time as a Saint has been fun but also rewarding as one of his coaches. Marelli battled a stellar field and represented himself and our program well in the hurdles."
The AARTFC championships continue Thursday.
