First-Year Baker Leaves Mark With 200-Meter Program Record; Saints Post Huge Day of Personal-Bests

At the end of Ella Baker's first year in Scarlet and Brown, the sprinter has already claimed two sprinting program record marks after Friday's trip to the Fastrack National Invitational. Baker etched her name into the Saints' record books, sprinting to a program-record time of 25.68 in the 200-meter dash.

Her fifth-place finish was particularly impressive on the national stage, as she crossed the line as the second-fastest Division III finisher in a massive field of 120 competitors, including many Division I sprinters. Baker also excelled in the 60-meter dash, posting her second-quickest time of the season at 8.00.

The first-year's outing highlighted a long but fruitful day for the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team.

"We made the very most of the trip to New York City today," said Saints head coach Kate Howard. "The personal best performances rolled in all day long both on the track and in the field. Ella was terrific once again in the sprints.  We're thrilled to see another program record with her name on it. We're very pleased with where we are performance-wise at this point in the season and we can't wait to see where this momentum takes the team from here."

The Saints saw a wave of personal bests across the distance and middle-distance events. Avery Blanchard led the way in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line in a career-best 18:13.15, while Madison Beaudoin shaved time off her personal record in the mile, finishing in 5:09.77.

In the 800-meter run, Addison Ash secured a PB of 2:26.87 and doubled back to set another personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.69 for a double PR day. She was joined in the 400-meter by Amelia Berthold's personal-record time of 1:02.31, and Margaret McNally, who notched a PR of 1:04.19.

The momentum continued in the short sprints, where Ava Machado cracked the top 10 in the 60-meter dash with a PB of 8.18. This marks the second consecutive week she has improved her career time. Machado also added a personal best in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.59.

Isla Bougard Duncan also enjoyed a career day, setting personal marks in both the 60-meter (8.32) and the 200-meter (28.06) dashes. Emma Brosell rounded out the sprint effort for the Saints with a strong 28.68 finish in the 200-meter.

In the throwing rings, the Saints continued to find their best form. Rosemary Fleischmann placed 17th in the weight throw with a career-long 13.18 meters. Kaitlyn Putman also secured a 21st-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 10.71 meters.

St. Lawrence will now send a group of athletes to the Lake City, as they take part in the Plattsburgh Sprint/Field Meet on Tuesday, February 10.
