Box Score The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team took singles wins in the top three singless flights on route to a 6-1 dual-match victory over Daemen. The Saints set the tone early in doubles play and carried that momentum through a deep singles lineup to improve their record to 2-1.
The afternoon began with a battle for the lone doubles point, where St. Lawrence claimed two of the three flights to take an early 1-0 lead.
At the No. 2 spot, the duo of
Willem Naughton and
Charles Schepens put the Saints on the board with a sharp 6-3 win over Rohan Chitanana and Pablo Viera.
Ryan Tingley and
Bennett Stout matched that effort at No. 3, securing the doubles point for the Scarlet and Brown with an identical 6-3 victory over Lucas Garcia and Mitch Pollock.
St. Lawrence took five of the six singles matches.
Josh David edged Alex Lumanog in a tight first-set tiebreak and cruised in the second set to win at No. 1, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Jake David had to storm back in his match at No. 2; after dropping the opening set. He roared back to take the remainder of the match in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback win against Lucas Garcia.
The middle and bottom of the lineup proved just as effective for the Saints.
Bennett Stout cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4, while
Aidan Baracao shut the door at No. 6 with a straight-sets 6-2, 7-5 win over Mitch Pollock.
At the No. 5 spot, where
Preston Mcarthy battled through a rollercoaster three-setter. After splitting sets with Lasse Mergens, Mcarthy outlasted his opponent in a 10-8 third-set tiebreak.
St. Lawrence continues its singles season on Sunday at the University of Rochester.
