The St. Lawrence University baseball team is set to open its 2026 season this weekend when the Saints travel to Newark, Delaware, for a three-game series against Bates College at the University of Delaware. Game one is scheduled for Friday, February 20, at noon, while games two and three will be played on Saturday and Sunday at noon and 11 a.m., respectively.
The Saints are aiming for a strong start as they look to return to the Liberty League playoffs under head coach
Kenny Collins, who enters his sixth year at the helm, along with assistant coach
Jackson Sattinger, who begins his first season with the program.
"We are really looking forward to opening up the season this weekend," said Collins. "We feel confident about our returning talent, and some of the first-years and transfers will contribute right away."
St. Lawrence wrapped up its 2025 season with an 11-23 overall record, a 6-11 mark in conference play, and a 5-10 divisional record, falling just short of the Liberty League Championships. The Saints were slated to compete in the Liberty League crossover series against Hobart before inclement weather throughout the rainy spring forced its cancellation.
"Competing in the conference tournament is always our goal, and we believe our schedule will prepare us to do that," Collins added. "The team has worked extremely hard this offseason, and I can't wait to see it pay off this year."
The Saints return 32 players from last year's roster and welcome 11 newcomers, including nine first-years from the Class of 2029 and two sophomore transfers from Liberty League programs.
Among the returners are senior position players
John Donnellan,
Eoin Morrissey,
Willie Landman,
John Gannon,
Owen McClintock, and
Max Cloutier, who are expected to anchor the lineup and take on key leadership roles. Senior pitchers
James Morr,
JJ Humenay,
Michael Flyzik,
Danny Collins, and
Joshua Polumbo will look to do the same on the mound.
The junior class is headlined by a pair of left-handers who made a significant impact last year.
Boden Driscoll (39.1 innings) and
David Zuhlsdorf (38.2 innings) led the pitching staff in innings pitched and will once again play major roles on the hill.
Zuhlsdorf, a Canton, N.Y., native, went 1-4 in eight appearances with a 4.66 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP, leading the team with 37 strikeouts. Driscoll, from Portsmouth, N.H., finished second on the team with 31 strikeouts and posted a 2-3 record, a 4.66 ERA, and a 1.47 WHIP.
Other members of the Class of 2027 include position players
Jack Finnegan,
Nolan Widrick,
Gabe Albertson,
Finn Parker,
Matt Davis, and
Mike Siano, as well as pitchers
Kyle Baudouin,
Liam Hickey, and
Will Mueller.
The sophomore class includes returners
Shota Kubota,
Ryan McCausland,
Jack Growney,
Ethan Harris,
Joe LaPrade,
Brendan Young,
Owen Gray, and
Lukas Sharrock, who will look to continue their development with the Saints.
Joining them are sophomore transfer pitchers
Noah Clausen and
Will Nardella. Clausen, the right-hander from Whitesboro, N.Y., arrives after spending his first year at Clarkson University, where he threw a third of an inning in a win over SUNY Fredonia, while the southpaw Nardella comes to Canton from Union College after appearing in seven games and logging 7.2 innings pitched.
The first-year class, which will look to make an immediate impact, includes
George Proffitt,
Pearson Dodds,
Riley Reimund,
Nathan Jackson,
Ben Zyskowski,
Reis Stamaris,
Charlie Todd,
Charles Roth, and
Cam Cirone.
Following the series in Delaware, the Saints will face Purchase College on March 7 and Keuka College on March 8 in a pair of doubleheaders before traveling to Clinton, N.Y., for a twin bill against Hamilton.
Liberty League play begins with a road series against Hobart on March 20-21. The schedule also features a road series at Rochester, while the Saints will host three-games series against RIT, Vassar, and Ithaca at Tom Fay Field. St. Lawrence will also take on Clarkson in a series that begins with a standalone game in Potsdam on Friday, April 24, followed by a doubleheader in Canton the next day.
Along with the season's opening opponents, the non-conference slate includes matchups with Dickinson College and Penn College of Technology during a trip to Pennsylvania on March 24-25, as well as contests against SUNY Canton, VTSU Castleton, Norwich, and Plattsburgh State.
