Season Preview: No. 11 Saints Open 2026 Centennial Campaign with Thursday Matchup

The 11th-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team is hitting the road to open their 2026 centennial season this Thursday, February 19 in Springfield, Mass., facing off against the Western New England Golden Bears.

The men's lacrosse team is guided by the leadership of head coach Mike Mahoney '93, P'22, '24, '27, who enters his 29th season with the Saints this year with a record of 306-130. Mahoney's wins record ranks eighth in Division III and 12th across all divisions for all-time victories amongst active lacrosse coaches.

The Saints were selected to finish third in the highly competitive Liberty League and were ranked 11th in the USILA Coaches Poll and 15th in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll. For more info on preseason polls, captains, and schedule information check out last week's article here.

Last season, the Saints played for the Liberty League Championship and earned an at-large postseason bid, advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament against defending national champion Tufts last season. SLU finished 2025 at 12-7 overall and 5-2 in Liberty League action.

St. Lawrence graduated 11 seniors last season, and will look to a strong group of upperclassmen, including senior captains Cam Croasdaile, Quin Fedor and Sam Wade, along with the other seven members of the Class of 2026.

Heading into their first week of competition, both Dan Anderson and Daniel Mahoney earned Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America honors.

Mahoney led the Saints in points last season with 57 on 38 goals and 19 assists. He also picked up 42 ground balls and caused three turnovers, while Anderson tallied 10 goals, two helpers, 35 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. Mahoney also earned USILA All-America, IMLCA All-Region, and All-Liberty League honors in 2025.

Other key attackman for the Saints this season will be juniors Ethan Freidberg and Will Harris, sophomores, Patrick Murray, Owen Pence and Jamie Rosenzsweig. First-years on attack this season include – Chad Bartlett, Keiran Heaney, Mac Priesing and Jenson Kohler.

Rosenzsweig ranked second on the Saints' squad last season with 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points. He also picked up 27 ground balls and scored two game winners.

Offensive middies leading the way this year include seniors Dan Anderson, Croasdaile, David Herlihy, Ted Wilson, Sean Wiseman and Ceron White. Juniors in the midfield include Henry Crean, Asa Beach, and Charlie Cunningham, while returning sophomores include Nathan Coghlin and Jack Schneider. First-year Charlie DeMore will also be in the midfield mix.

Croasdaile recorded 19 goals and six assists, while Herlihy tallied 17 goals and two helpers for 19 points and Crean tallied 10 goals and four assists.

"We have players that played significant minutes for us last year on the offensive end and we hope to capitalize on that experience, especially early on as we find our footing in some other areas," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "We hope to create more balance with our positional scoring as the season moves along"

At the short stick defensive position this season, the Saints have got senior Silas Jackson, juniors Thomas Duane, Rhett Palmer and William Villa, sophomore Connor McMahon, and first-years Ben Anderson and JP Charpentier

Leading the Saints with the long pole this season is Wade, along with junior Rogan Cardinal, sophomore Liam Flaherty and newcomers Chris Caiazzo and Andrew Heneghan

Faceoffs this season will lie in the hands of a few Saints, including sophomores Reid Mather and Wyatt Ryckert and first-years William Abplanalp and Ray Hagios.

Defensively, St. Lawrence will be led by seniors Fedor and Charlie Higgins, juniors Will Gagnon, Michael Miele, sophomores Devon Higgins, Drew Knight, Chauncey Payne, and Harry Polito. Andrew Mannegia joins the defense as a first year.

Miele finished with 2025 season with 26 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers, while Higgins tallied six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

"As a whole, we have a nice mix of youth and experience across the defensive unit and we will continue to take a very team-oriented approach on the defensive end," Mahoney added.

Between the pipes is also up for grabs this season, after the graduation Michael Marinello, who was named DIII Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie of the Year. Heath Mann and Ryan Powers return for their junior campaigns and are joined by sophomore Rafferty Callahan and first-year George Persinger.

"It has been a very competitive pre-season in the goalie room and we have some great options at that position."

The Saints welcome a total of 16 first-years to the mix to go along with 15 sophomores, 16 juniors and 10 seniors, who are eager to get the 100th season of men's lacrosse at St. Lawrence underway.

After opening the season at WNE, the Saints will faceoff against Cortland in their home opener on February 22, marking the first game on the Saints brand new turf at North Country Field. St. Lawrence will then make two trips to Rochester, facing St. John Fisher on February 28 and Nazareth on March 7.

Over spring break the Saints will make their fourth consecutive trip to Maryland for the highly competitive Callum Robinson Mustang Classic at Stevenson, facing Dickinson and host Stevenson, before opening league play at home against Union on March 21.
