Saints Varsity Esports Goes 7-1, Secures Playoff Berths; Takes Third at NECC Project 3

St. Lawrence Esports put together another impressive week of competition, finishing 7-1 across Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, and Overwatch. Week six saw all three varsity titles secure at least one postseason berth, Rocket League claimed the Saints' rivalry series against Seton Hill University, and Overwatch extended its undefeated season to 12-0.

Super Smash Bros Varsity opened the week Monday with a dominant 2-0 victory over Schreiner University, taking the two crew battles 12-7 and 12-2. The victory secured St. Lawrence a spot in the ECAC playoffs. The Saints returned Tuesday against New England Institute of Technology, falling 0-2 in two competitive crew battles, 8-12 and 10-12. St. Lawrence bounced back Wednesday against Indiana Tech, earning a 2-0 victory with scores of 12-8 and 12-9 to finish the week 2-1 and move to 8-6 overall.

Rocket League delivered a perfect 3-0 week. St. Lawrence opened Tuesday with a dominant 4-0 sweep of Rochester Institute of Technology, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-1, 5-2, and 2-1 to clinch an ECAC playoff berth. The Saints followed Wednesday with another 4-0 sweep, this time against Université de Sherbrooke. St. Lawrence controlled the series with game scores of 3-1, 7-2, 4-2, and 6-0, with the victory also securing a spot in the NECC postseason.

Rocket League finished its regular-season week Thursday in the deciding match of the Saints' rivalry series with Seton Hill University. With the series tied 1-1 after Overwatch won the opening matchup and Seton Hill answered with a Super Smash Bros victory, Rocket League served as the tiebreaker. St. Lawrence took the opening two games 5-1 and 2-1 before Seton Hill responded with a 2-1 win. The Saints closed the series with a 3-1 victory in game four to win the match 3-1 and claim the rivalry series for St. Lawrence. Rocket League now sits at 11-2 overall.

The Saints capped off the week Sunday with another strong showing in the Project 3 Rocket League Tournament, battling through the tournament bracket to earn a third-place finish. The tournament performance added another highlight to a week that already saw Rocket League clinch postseason berths in both leagues and secure the Seton Hill rivalry series.

Overwatch remained the final undefeated St. Lawrence Esports team with two more sweeps. The Saints opened Wednesday against the University at Albany, earning a 3-0 victory with map scores of 2-0, 1-0, and 3-1. The win secured St. Lawrence an NECC playoff berth, adding to its already-clinched ECAC spot.

St. Lawrence returned Thursday against SUNY Polytechnic Institute and earned another 3-0 sweep, taking the three maps 2-1, 2-1, and 1-0. The victory moved Overwatch to a perfect 12-0 overall while also clinching the ECAC Division B Group 3 championship. The group title guarantees the Saints a top-three seed in Division B, while a 3-0 victory over the University of Michigan-Flint next week would secure the No. 1 seed.

With week six complete, St. Lawrence Varsity Esports sits at 31-8 overall. Super Smash Bros Varsity is 8-6, Rocket League sits at 11-2, and Overwatch remains undefeated at 12-0. All three varsity titles are now headed to postseason play in at least one league, with Rocket League and Overwatch qualified in both.

The Saints return next week for another full slate of competition. Super Smash Bros Varsity takes on John Brown University Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET before facing Hagerstown Community College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET. Rocket League faces Mercyhurst University Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. ET before taking on the University of Idaho Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Overwatch returns Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET against the University of Michigan-Flint, where a 3-0 victory would secure the No. 1 seed in ECAC Division B, before closing the week Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET against East Stroudsburg University.
