The St. Lawrence University women's squash team, which won the program's first-ever Walker Cup at last year's CSA Team Nationals, will look to build on that breakthrough and reclaim the Liberty League title in 2026-27.
The Scarlet and Brown, ranked No. 23 in the preseason CSA Squash poll, went 15-5 last season, tying for the second-most wins in program history. They fell 5-4 to Denison in the Liberty League Championship match, then rolled through the Walker Cup bracket, beating Chatham 7-2 and Bates 8-1 before topping Franklin & Marshall 8-1 in the final for the program's third CSA Team Nationals title and its first since 2007.
The new campaign begins on Friday, October 30, at 4 p.m. at William Smith.
The ladder will look different this year after graduating five seniors from the Class of 2026:
Laura Franz,
Emma Kahle,
Madeleine Martin,
Ksenia Merkulova and
Lilly Ritchie. Franz and Kahle each tied for the team lead with 15 wins last season.
"Despite losing some key players, the women's team has retained some valuable depth and is well-positioned to compete for the Liberty League championship after narrowly missing out last season. With the potential addition of two players in January, there is also an outside chance of successfully defending the Walker Cup title won last season."
The core of last year's title team returns. Sophomore
Eboni Atherley, the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-League selection, is back, along with junior
Angel Otshabeng, who earned First Team honors for the second time in her career. Sophomore
Katherine Callaway (13-5) and junior
Khissaiyia Spencer (13-6), both Second Team selections, also return. The returners are rounded out by sophomore
Kamya C. Franklin and juniors
Mariam Dodd and
Azaa Regmi.
Head coach
David Morrish also welcomes three first-years to the roster in
Armelle Akimfura,
Leah Kindle and
Journeih Sultan, who will compete for spots in the Saints' order.
After the opener at William Smith, the Saints head to Washington, D.C., for a November 5 match at Georgetown, then travel to Franklin & Marshall on November 6. They return to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on December 4-6 for a run of matches at Vassar. They face Vassar on December 4, Haverford on December 5, and Wesleyan on December 6.
Following the holiday break, the Saints visit Bowdoin (January 13), Bates (January 14), and Brown (January 15), then host Dickinson at the Robie Squash Center on January 30. A February 3 trip to Hamilton leads into the Liberty League Tournament, which will be held at the Robie Squash Center on February 13-14.
