Season Recap: Women's Squash Wins First-Ever Walker Cup; Atherley Named ROY in 2025-26

The St. Lawrence University women's squash team enjoyed a banner year in which they won their first-ever Walker Cup title and their third CSA Team Nationals title in program history.

St. Lawrence finished the season at 15-5 overall, which was tied for the second-most wins in a season in program history. The Walker Cup title the Saints claimed is the third CSA Team Nationals title for the Saints in their program history and their first since 2007. The Scarlet and Brown won the Epps Cup in 1999 and 2007.

Individually, the Scarlet and Brown found success, and Eboni Atherley was named the Liberty League's Rookie of the Year. Atherley was also named to the All-League First Team alongside Angel Otshabeng, while Katherine Callaway, Emma Kahle, and Khissaiyia Spencer were honored on the Second Team. Laura Franz, Madeleine Martin, and Ksenia Merkulova all made the Honorable Mention squad.

St. Lawrence started their season on the right note back in November, going 4-0 before falling to Georgetown in December. The Saints came back from the Holiday break and claimed wins against Brown, Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, and Hamilton ahead of the Liberty League Tournament.

The team cruised on day one of the Liberty League Tournament, beating William Smith and Bard to set up a Championship matchup against Denison in which the Saints dropped a tight 5-4 decision.

Their regular season ended with wins against William Smith and Bates as they rolled into the Walker Cup.

The Saints opened up Nationals with a 7-2 win over Chatham in the Quarterfinals, then beat Bates 8-1 in the Semifinals to reach the Final. The Scarlet and Brown lined up against Franklin & Marshall and secured the 8-1 win for the first Walker Cup trophy in program history.

Atherley, who played primarily at number two in the St. Lawrence ladder, went 13-5 in her first season with the Saints and went 2-0 at the Liberty League Championships en route to being named the Rookie of the Year and to the All-League first team. Joining Atherley on the First Team is last year's Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Otshabeng, who went 12-5 from the number one spot in the order. Otshabeng is on the First Team for the second time in her career.

On the Second Team are Callaway, Kahle, and Spencer for the Scarlet and Brown. Callaway owned a 13-5 record in her first season in Canton, while Kahle was tied for the team lead with 15 wins and went 15-5. Spencer was a strong presence in the middle of the order and had a 13-6 mark on the year.

Rounding out the All-League teams were seniors Franz, Martin, and Merkulova, who were named to the Honorable Mention squad. Franz was tied with Kahle with 15 wins and a 15-5 record, Martin was 13-4, and Merkulova went 10-4 after missing the opening portion of the season.
