The St. Lawrence University women's squash team, which had a Round of 16 bye thanks to being the brackets' number one seed, cruised through the Quarterfinals, defeating Chatham 7-2 on Friday afternoon in the Walker Cup at the CSA Team Nationals in Philadelphia, Pa.
St. Lawrence improved to 13-5 with the win, while Chatham fell to 6-9.
Much like the men's match against Chatham, the Saints started up 2-0 thanks to a pair of defaults at eight and nine, where
Ksenia Merkulova and
Emma Kahle earned wins.
At two,
Eboni Atherley took part in a long match against Vasundhra Vasanthan and won the second and fourth match en route to a winter-take-all game five, which she won 11-6.
At five through seven, respectively,
Laura Franz,
Khissaiyia Spencer, and
Katherine Callaway each earned 3-0 sweeps. Franz took on TaNiya Nored at five and won 11-6, 11-7, 11-4, while Spencer defeated Amari Spivey 11-4, 11-2, 11-1 at six. In the seven-spot, Callaway lined up against Sarah Secco and cruised to an 11-1, 11-1, 11-0 win.
In the final match of the day,
Angel Otshabeng took on Clara Braga in the number one spot, and she cruised to an 11-4, 11-8, 1-5 win.
St. Lawrence advances to the Semifinals of the Walker Cup, where they will take on No. 4-seeded Bates at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
