First-year
Sam LeDrew scored the lone goal for the Saints as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey fell 8-1 to Yale on Friday night at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
St. Lawrence fell to 2-17-2 with the loss and 1-8-0 in ECAC play, while Yale improved to 5-10-0 and 4-5-0 in league action.
The first period of the game saw neither team score, but not without good chances.
Frankie Carogioiello had the best look of the frame with 8:04 left when he found himself behind the Bulldogs' defense. Noah Pak was up to the task, stopping the threat from trickling in.
Mason Kucenski made nine saves in the first period for the Saints.
After no goals in the first, there were five goals in the second between the two teams.
St. Lawrence had a power play chance in the opening minute of the period, but was unable to take the lead. Instead, Hudson Miller lit the lamp at the 3:45 mark to break the ice.
The Scarlet and Brown answered 23 seconds later, however, when an odd-man rush led to a tying goal.
Cayden Casey, Filip Juříček, and LeDrew put on quite a passing display as they entered the Yale zone, which ended with Juříček centering a pass to LeDrew, who buried the feed to tie the game at 1-1.
Things would go south in a hurry in the second half of the period as Yale scored three unanswered goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the locker room.
The Bulldog offense was not done as they scored two power play goals and two even-strength goals in the third period to secure the 8-1 win.
Kucenski finished with 16 saves in 40 minutes of play, while
Colin Winn stopped 14 in relief. Pak made 20 saves for the Bulldogs.
Yale went 2-for-4 on the man-advantage, while St. Lawrence saw just one opportunity, going 0-for-1.
St. Lawrence will head to Providence for tomorrow's game against Brown University. The game at Meehan Auditorium will be a 4 p.m. puck drop.
