Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Skating Saints Drop Home Matchup to No. 6 Quinnipiac

Cameron Smith and Mason Kucenski stopped a combined 33 shots in goal, but an offensive onslaught from the visitors doomed the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team to a 7-0 loss against No. 6 Quinnipiac on Friday night in Appleton Arena.

St. Lawrence fell to 3-21-3 overall with the result and 2-12-1 in ECAC play, while the Bobcats improved to 20-5-2 and 11-2-0 in league action.

The Bobcats came out strong to start the game, but that didn't stop the Saints from producing some early chances.  Rasmus Svartström saw two of his attempts sail wide of Matej Marinov, while Isaac Tremblay had both of his bids blocked by Braden Blace.

Quinnipiac eventually broke through, however, with a goal from Markus Vidicek at the 3:29 mark. Before the Saints were able to get another shot on Marinov, the Bobcats doubled their lead at 4:42 of the first period.

Play would level off a bit after the goal, and some St. Lawrence pressure led to the Saints' first power play of the night. Gabe Westling had a great chance off a feed from Tremblay but was stoned by Marinov to keep the two-goal score.

Quinnipiac got a power play chance of their own later in the period and netted their third goal of the period on the chance, which they carried into the break.

Jake Lammens, Isack Bandu, and Sam LeDrew powered some chances for the Scarlet and Brown in the first six minutes of the second but were unable to find twine.

Instead, the Bobcats netted a pair of goals at the 11:31 and 12:20 marks to balloon the lead to 5-0. Despite some late pressure and a power play, the Saints were unable to break the shutout in the second period.

St. Lawrence was tasked with nearly five minutes of penalty kill time to begin the third, and the unit stood tall, keeping the score at 5-0.

Quinnipiac tacked on two more goals in the second half of the third to further put the game out of reach.

Smith stopped 20 shots in 31:32 of action, while Kucenski made 13 saves in 27:40. Marinov came away with 23 saves for the visitors.

Quinnipiac held the 40-23 shot advantage and went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Saints went 0-for-4.

St. Lawrence will look to bounce back tomorrow when they host Princeton in a 7 p.m. game at Appleton Arena.
