The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team made a strong showing in the B doubles draw on day one of the Garnet Charger Invitational, hosted by Union College, with three tandems advancing to the semifinals to lead the Scarlet and Brown.
In the B doubles draw,
Sebastían Boada and
Ryan Tingley edged Union's Alain Uzelac and Reilly Fowles in a thrilling 8-7 (7) match to secure their spot in the semis. On the opposite side of the bracket,
Aidan Baracao and
Bennett Stout cruised to an 8-4 win, while
Preston Mcarthy and
Rowan Bepler dominated with an 8-1 victory. Baracao/Stout and Mcarthy/Bepler will face off in the semifinals for a chance to reach the flight final.
In singles play,
Charles Schepens led the Saints with a first-round win over RPI's Aiden Atri (7-5, 6-1) in the C draw before falling in the semifinals to Trinity's John Pope.
Josh David,
Jake David, and Tingley dropped their opening matches but rebounded with consolation victories in their respective draws.
In the D and E draws, Mcarthy, Baracao, and Stout each earned consolation wins after early exits.
Willem Naughton advanced to the E semifinals with a tight 8-7 (6) win over Trinity's Enrico Buoro and will face RPI's Cade Collingwood next.
