Season Recap: Women’s Squash Claims Their Fifth League Title; Otshabeng Named ROY in 2024-25

The St. Lawrence University women's squash team orchestrated a comeback in the Liberty League Championship match against Denison to win their fifth title in program history, to highlight their 2024-25 season.

The Championship was the program's fourth since 2017-18 and their first since the 2021-22 season. The Saints finished their season with a 7-8 record overall and advanced to the Walker Cup at CSA Team Nationals.

St. Lawrence began their season in January with a pair of wins against William Smith and Brown before dropping a pair against Wesleyan and Bowdoin. Next on the schedule was CSA Individual Nationals, where Angel Otshabeng made her CSA debut in the Holleran West bracket.

After a pair of losses to Hamilton and Dickinson, the Saints hosted the Liberty League Tournament at the Robie Squash Center in early February. An 8-0 win over Bard and a 6-3 win against Haverford put the team in the title game against Denison.

St. Lawrence found themselves down 4-2 through six matches before rattling off a pair of wins to tie the match at 4-4. The decisive point was in the hands of Otshabeng in the number one spot, and the first-year won the match to secure the title. The newcomer was awarded as the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player for her weekend play.

The Saints picked up a win against Chatham after the Tournament ahead of the Team Nationals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the Walker Cup, the Saints fell in a rematch against Denison before bouncing back with a 5-3 win over Connecticut College. Their season would end in the next match, dropping a 5-4 match against Haverford.

Along with being named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament, Otshabeng was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-League member. Laura Franz and Meg Pruett joined her on the first-team, while Mariam Dodd and Madeleine Martin collected second-team honors.
