Box Score 2 Stella VanGee went 3-for-3 in game two including a triple,
Vivian Johnson had a pair of knocks in game one, and the Saints had two solid pitching performances on the day but the St. Lawrence University softball team dropped two one-run games to Rochester 4-3 in nine innings, and 2-1.
The Saints had two complete games in the circle over their two games, with
Marleigh Monroe going all nine innings in the extra-inning affair. In game two,
Sofia Berryhill went the distance with seven innings of two-run ball
The Saints drop to 11-9 and 1-3 in the Liberty League. As for Rochester, they are now riding a nine-game winning streak after starting the year 3-8 to get to 12-8 overall and a tie for first place with RPI at 4-0 in the conference.Â

Game 1: St. Lawrence 3, Rochester 4 (9 Innings)
Rochester sent a slew of runners to the basepaths in the first, with a single and a double to kick off the first inning. Later in the frame, after
Allison Kloft threw the lead runner out at home, the Yellow Jackets got on the board via an RBI double from Jenna Gorecki to make it 1-0. Rochester had three more hits in the second, adding another run in the inning.Â
The Saints were initially silenced by Yellow Jackets starter Molly Broccolo, and through the first five innings, St. Lawrence had only two baserunners, both of which were Johnson with a walk in the first and a single in the fourth.Â
Through the middle of the game, Monroe was nearly flawless, allowing just two hits and no runs through the next four innings, striking out two in this span as well.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, the Saints got a one-out single from Caelan Jahnle, followed by a fielder's choice from
Maeve Thompson. Thompson advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Johnson and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Kloft then delivered a two-out RBI single to cut the Rochester lead in half and Scarlet and Brown headed into the seventh inning trailing 2-1.
The Yellow Jackets got their two-run lead right back after a single and double scored one more run in the second and the Saints went into their final at bats down 3-1.Â
St. Lawrence came through in the clutch after starting the inning with hits from a single Monroe and a bunt single from
Sofia Camillieri. Thompson walked to load the bases and then Johnson stepped up to the plate.
The senior from San Rafael, Calif. then got down to her final strike, before connecting on a pitch to deliver a two-run single for her second hit of the game, tying it at three. Rochester got the final out of the inning right after, stranding two runners to take the game into extra frames.Â
The Saints threatened in the bottom of the eighth after
Leah VerSchneider led off the inning with a walk and then
Marina Juan singled but the Yellow Jackets put out the Saints' lead runner on a rundown and then got a couple ground balls to end the inning and head into the ninth.Â
The Yellow Jackets tacked on a run in the ninth after a walk followed by two singles to get the game to 4-3. The Saints couldn't tie the game in the bottom of the frame, going three up, three down to end the game with a one-run loss. Â

Game 2: St. Lawrence 1, Rochester 2
The Yellow Jackets' Bailey Nicholoff cranked a solo home run to go up 1-0 in the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, VanGee led off the inning with a triple, rifling a fly ball into right-center field and turning on the afterburners to get into third base. A sac fly from Juan brought VanGee home and tied the game at 1.Â
Berryhill settled in after the first inning and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless through the next four innings, allowing just one hit and fanning a pair as well.Â
However, the Yellow Jackets scored again in the sixth via the home run ball, as leadoff hitter Riley Laygo sent the ball over the fence to give Rochester a 2-1 lead.Â
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Saints got two runners on with a walk from Kloft and a pinch hit single from Monroe, but Rochester escaped the jam. Despite a couple of hits from VanGee and
Emily Wendt in the bottom of the seventh, the Saints lost their lead runner after another rundown, and the Yellow Jackets stranded runners on second and third to conclude the game, sweeping the two-game series.Â
