Season Recap: Softball Surges to Semifinal Berth in LL Tournament, Kloft and Monroe Receive All-League Distinction

The St. Lawrence University softball team completed its first season under head coach Tyler Pagaduan, finishing the 2026 campaign with a 17-17 overall record and a 7-7 mark in Liberty League play.

The season was highlighted by key regular season victories over Colby, Clarkson, RIT, and Union, culminating in the program's return to the postseason as the No. 5 seed. This marked back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament, and led to the Saints' first playoff victories in over a decade. St. Lawrence.

The Saints opened the postseason on May 7 in Rochester, N.Y., securing their first playoff victory in 13 seasons with a 6-4 win over number four seed Skidmore in the conference play-in game. After falling behind early, St. Lawrence rallied in the second inning when sophomore outfielder Marina Juan hit a two-run home run to tie the game. Sophomore pitcher Marleigh Monroe earned the complete-game victory in the circle, striking out a career-high 12 batters while allowing zero walks. Caelen Jahnle and Allison Kloft provided critical runs batted in late in the game to hold off a Skidmore rally.

The following day, St. Lawrence bounced back after a defeat to No. 24 nationally-ranked Rochestrer in an elimination game against number three seed RPI. Senior outfielder Maeve Thompson drove in four runs to lead the Saints' offense to a 9-3 victory over the Engineers, moving the team into the tournament semifinals. The campaign officially came to a close later that afternoon following a second loss to Rochester.

"We had a great season this year making it all the way to the semifinals," Pagaduan said. "I am super proud of this group, and I am excited for the future of this program!"

Kloft, an All-Liberty League first team selection, anchored the offense by leading the team with a .440 batting average, 48 hits, 12 doubles, and 31 runs batted in.

Monroe earned all-conference honors alongside Kloft, qualifying for the second team. She contributed a .356 batting average at the plate in addition to her primary pitching duties, where she amassed a team-high seven wins and a 2.56 ERA. Thompson finished the year with a .325 batting average, 38 hits, and 21 runs scored, while five total team members received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors following the season's conclusion.
