Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Score Three Unanswered Goals, Come from Behind for 4-2 Win at Boston College

Rylan Haslam scored a pair of goals, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the third period to power to a 4-2 win over Boston College on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. to earn the weekend split.

With the win, the Saints improved to 7-11-1 and the Eagles fell to 9-7-1.

With hot sticks to start game two, Cheyenne Degeer pushed the puck from behind the goal line to Haslam, but Haslam was robbed with a point-blank save from Emily Campbell.

On the opposite end, Saints' goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström returned the favor to Ava Thomas, with a stop on a fast break attempt for the Eagles to keep the game scoreless.

The battle of the netminders continued, as Nordström stopped Thomas on the rush again and Campbell continued to bail out Boston College, as the Saints pinned down the Eagles in their own zone for the majority of the final three minutes, but the first period remained scoreless, as the Saints led 13-11 in shots on goal after the first 20 minutes.

With about 13 minutes to play in the second, Campbell once again saved the Eagles, as she made a diving save on a wraparound shot from Brooke Mulvihill. The Saints continued to pepper the Eagles' goaltender, as Campbell made 11 saves in the first half of the second period.

The teams traded power play opportunities in the latter half of the second, but Boston College picked up two more power play opportunities to end the second and open up the third with a 5-on-3 chance.

After two periods, SLU led 29-15 in shots on goal, including 16-4 in the second period alone.

Six goals paced the third period in a high-scoring affair to cap game two of the series.

Boston College was the first to find the back of the net, as Madelyn Murphy fired a shot off the back boards that bounced to the stick of Emma Conner. Conner was able to bank it off Nordström's skate to capitalize on the 5-on-3 advantage.

Twelve minutes later, Kennedy Wilson tied things up. After a big effort on the assist from Degeer in the corner, Wilson hammered a shot top corner to make it 1-1.

The teams traded goals, as Thomas dragged to beat the defense and ripped a shot over Nordström's blocker to make it 2-1 Eagles, but the Saints rallied once again as Haslam came out of nowhere and redirected a shot from Ella Nancarrow to make it 2-2.

It was Haslam once again, making a huge individual effort going 1-on-2 with the Eagles' defense and lifting the puck over the blocker of Campbell to give the Saints their first lead and record her second multi-goal game.

Following an Eagles timeout, Boston College pulled Campbell with 1:27 to play in the third.

The final goal came from Alexa Davis, as she blocked a shot, gained control of the puck in the Saints' zone, took it all the way down the right boards for the empty netter and the win.

"Today's third period has been our best of the year and today we had one that got us four goals," said head coach Chris Wells. "Coming back twice and being able to finish the way we did is another step for our team. Campbell was excellent for BC all weekend and we finally were able to get one by her on Wilson's goal."

Nordström finished with 25 saves, while Campbell made 41 for BC.

St. Lawrence outshot Boston College 79-50, including 45-27 in shots on goal, as the Eagles blocked 23 shots to St. Lawrence's 12. The Saints four goals in the third, marked their sixth third-period comeback of the season.

"It was another solid effort and we are getting some good consistency to our play," Wells added. "Two games vs. Clarkson this week will be another good test. The players deserved today's result and were rewarded for their hard work."

The Saints head into their final week of the fall semester next week. They'll host Route 11 rival Clarkson on Thursday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference tilt, before heading to Cheel Arena on Saturday for their first ECAC matchup with the Golden Knights at 2 p.m.
