Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Côté Scores, Lawrence Makes 36 Saves; Saints Tie Clarkson in Non-League Play

Alexia Côté scored in the first period and Kassidy Lawrence made 36 saves, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie with the No. 10 Clarkson Golden Knights in non-conference action on Thursday night at Appleton Arena.

The Saints were off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead on the power play. Rylan Haslam won the puck battle in the corner and found Côté and Hayden Summers, who passed at the top of the key. Côté fired a low shot from the top of the left circle that slipped past Clarkson goaltender Arianne Leblanc for the goal.

After 20 minutes of play, the Saints led on the scoreboard and in shots, 11-8.

The same high-tempo pace of play continued throughout the second, but both goaltenders were up to the task, keeping the other off the scoreboard. St. Lawrence held onto their 1-0 lead and Clarkson held the slight edge in the second, outshooting SLU 11-9.

The Golden Knights leveled the playing field, after a flurry of shots on goal, Rhea Hicks capitalized with a wraparound goal to tie the game 1-1 with four minutes left in the third period and force the Saints seventh overtime of the season.

With 1:08 to play in overtime, Lawrence made a fantastic glove save, and with just milliseconds to spare she stopped a Clarkson breakaway to finish off with a tie.

Clarkson won the shootout 1-0 on their second attempt.

"We got off to a real good start in the first and played some solid hockey and created a lot of opportunities," said head coach Chris Wells. "It's been a while since we have scored in the first so it was a bit of a change for us playing with the lead."

"Clarkson pushed hard and we were able to get to overtime. Kass made some great saves and we broke up a few key plays. OT was entertaining as always as both teams could have won it. The fans were treated to a great game to close out 2025 in Appleton."

Lawrence finished with 36 saves for the Saints, while Leblanc made 23 saves for Clarkson.

The Golden Knights outshot the Saints 37-24, but the Saints were the only team to find a goal on the power play, going 1-for-3, while Clarkson went 0-for-5.

The teams will meet again on Saturday at Cheel Arena for the third time this season, but the first in ECAC play. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
