Box Score Four Saints hit double digits and two had career highs, including a 17-point contest from
Annie Perry and 16 from
Mason Baker-Schlendering, as they bounced back with a productive offensive performance against Salve Regina in the Western New England Tournament's consolation game early Saturday afternoon.
Perry also dished out 10 assists, which also stands as a career high. She was named to the All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the event.
The Saints improve to 4-1 with the win, continuing their strong start ahead of the start of conference play next weekend.
"We were outstanding at both ends of the floor today," said Saints head coach
Dan Roiger. "We played aggressively on defense and forced turnovers, while playing fast on offense and knocking down shots. We knew it would come down to their size against our quickness, and today our quickness won out."
After the Seahawks got the first basket of the game, the Saints stretched out an early lead off twos from Perry and Baker-Schlendering, and a three by
Jackie Malley. Perry then followed it up with two more layups to make it 11-5 St. Lawrence early.
Hannah Van Dyke also contributed to  the SLU lead with a three in the opening quarter. They led by eight at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a similar story, with St. Lawrence heading to the halftime break up 17. That began with a 12-1 run in the opening four minutes of the quarter, led by four Baker-Schlendering points. Salve Regina got the score down to a 14-point gap late, but
Alexis Mackenzie drilled a three-ball right before the break and the score was 48-31 at half.
Early in the third quarter, Perry scored on a layup just 19 seconds into the period, and St. Lawrence brought several starters back onto the floor at the break. That combination gave the Saints an immediate boost, pushing the margin from 17 points at halftime to a lead that moved into the 20s as they continued to convert early possessions and keep Salve Regina from gaining any ground. That held until the end of the game.
Aside from Perry and Baker-Schlendering, Malley and
Norah Niesz were the other point-scorers who hit double digits. Van Dyke and
Whitney Lewis led the Saints in rebounds, recording seven and six respectively.
The Saints now open conference play on the road, with their next games coming after the Thanksgiving break on Friday, December 5 against Union, and Saturday, December 6 against Rensselaer.
