Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Wilson Nets Overtime Game Winner; Saints Top Dartmouth, 2-1

Senior captain Kennedy Wilson scored with 1:05 remaining in overtime to lift the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Dartmouth on Friday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

The Saints controlled the majority of the first 20 minutes and had a few quality chances to score on a couple scrambles in front of Dartmouth goaltender Michaela Hesová, but we unable to find the back of the net.

After the first period, SLU doubled up in shots on goal 12-6.

The second period stayed the same as the first and saw just a handful of shots on goal, as St. Lawrence tallied five and Dartmouth finished the period with four to keep the score 0-0.

The Saints found the back of the net first, as Alexa Davis carried the puck into the Dartmouth zone and found Hayden Summers. Summers battled Dartmouth traffic and was able to get a backhanded pass off to Brooke Mulvihill, who put the Scarlet and Brown on the board with a 1-0 lead.

With 4:47 to play in the third, the Big Green answered as a snipe from Izee Powell went high and beat Saints goaltender Kassidy Lawrence to tie things up 1-1 on the power play and eventually send the game to overtime.

Wilson sent a shot to Hesová's chest to open overtime and Cheyenne Degeer got the next best opportunity for the Saints. With 2:08 to play, Lawrence made back-to-back saves on shots from Ella Inglis.

Dartmouth won the next faceoff in their own zone and made quick work of getting back to the Saints end. Alexia Côté pinned a Dartmouth forward down and Wilson pulled the puck off the boards, creating a potential 2-on-1 opportunity. Wilson's initial pass to Mulvihill was tipped, but the Saints held onto possession, as Côté regrouped, sent the puck back to Wilson, who ripped a shot off the iron and in for the overtime victory.

"We found a way to dig that one out tonight," said head coach Chris Wells. "Success is good this time of year and getting an OT win always feels good. Dartmouth battled us hard especially in the neutral zone, where we weren't able to get a lot of puck battles and couldn't get a ton of flow."

"We scored on a nice like rush to get it to 1-0 and then a real nice play to win in overtime. Kass made a big stop to keep it 1-1 and allow us to pull out the win."

Lawrence made 17 saves for the win, while Hesová made 28 for Dartmouth.

SLU finished with a 30-18 advantage in shots on goal, while the Big Green went 1-for-1 on the power play.

"We will have to get ready for Harvard as they have been playing some good hockey and playing with pace."

The Saints improved to 5-5-1 and 3-0-0 in ECAC play, while Dartmouth fell to 1-4-0 and 1-2-0.

SLU continues their weekend at home, hosting Harvard tomorrow at 3 p.m.
