Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Jurícek and LeDrew Score Early; Skating Saints Fall at Notre Dame

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 3:25 of the contest, but eight unanswered goals from the home team sent the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team to an 8-2 loss against Notre Dame on Thursday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Indiana.

St. Lawrence fell to 1-4-0 with the loss, while the Irish improved to 1-2-0.

The Scarlet and Brown jumped on the scoreboard early in the contest when Filip Juříček scored his first career goal.

Less than two minutes into the contest, Cayden Casey circled the puck down to Sam Frandina, who skipped an outlet pass up to his classmate. Juříček did the rest, finishing the breakaway for the 1-0 lead.

Along with it being the first career goal for the forward, it was the first collegiate point for Frandina, who earned the primary assist.

The lead was doubled less than two minutes later when Sam LeDrew scored on the breakaway as well. Goaltender Mason Kucenski collected the puck below the goal and passed it around to Jack Babbage, who sprung LeDrew on the break. Much like his classmate, he would finish the bid to take the 2-0 lead.

Kucenski earned his third career assist on the goal.

Notre Dame answered back with a Cole Knuble tally at the 15:19 mark to make it a 2-1 game at the break.

The Irish came out fighting in the second period, scoring four goals in the final five minutes of the second period to make it a 5-2 game.

Notre Dame tacked on three more in the final frame to further ice the game.

Kucenski stopped a career-high 39 shots in the loss, while Nicholas Kempf made 19 saves in the home net.

St. Lawrence went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Irish went 1-for-3 on the man-advantage.

The two teams will line it up again tomorrow at the Compton Family Ice Arena in a 7:05 p.m. start on Peacock.
