The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team saw two doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals to highlight day one of the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic on Saturday.
In A doubles, the duo of
John Hill-Edgar and Edvin Stranberg took on Ithaca's Siddharth Reddy and Gijs Fidler and cruised to a 6-1 victory. On the other side of the bracket,
Broderick Pinto and
Jake David began their doubles season with a 6-3 win over Hobart's Rahul Vallabhajosula and Hyat Oyer. Both tandems will take part in tomorrow's quarters and will be looking to advance.
In A singles play, Strandberg opened his Invitational with an 8-2 win over Hobart's Jacob Linares but fell in the quarterfinals to number one-seeded Connor Griff. In the B draw,
Armaan Walia opened his St. Lawrence career with a strong 8-6 win over Hamilton's Alejandro Fernandez Lecaroz, but much like his teammate, he would fall in the quarterfinals to end his run.
The other Saint to earn a singles win was
MJ Chaho, who won his first-round matchup against Liam Rieger 8-6 in the D draw. The sophomore put up a good fight against number two-seeded Nicolas Gritz but fell 8-5. Â
In the B bracket,
Aidan Baracao found himself in a tight matchup against RIT's Christian Berko in the opening-round, but narrowly lost 8-7 (12-10) in the hard-fought battle. Much like his teammate,
Sonny Mo found himself in a tiebreaker against Maximillian Chang in the D draw but dropped the match 8-7 (7-3).
The Saints will be back on court tomorrow for day two of the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic.
