The St. Lawrence University women's golf team opens the fall portion of the 2024-25 season with the St. Lawrence Invitational under first-year head coach
Dave Clausen at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course this Saturday and Sunday.
"We're all excited to get the season started this weekend," said Clausen. "Our women's team has several strong ball strikers with the ability to move the ball off the tee and elevate the ball into greens. As we become more consistent and gel as a group, we will be highly competitive every time we tee it up."
At the SLU Invitational, the Saints are scheduled to compete against Ithaca, Union, Cortland, St. John Fisher, Nazareth and SUNY Canton.
Last season, the Saints started out the year with a fourth-place finish at their home invitational.
Mary Grace McCann medaled at SUNY Canton and tied her career low with a 75 for the first-place finish, while
Abigail Sikora tied for second place, shooting an 89.
Lane Haehl shot a personal-best 90 and finished in the top five with a fourth-place finish.
At Liberty League's last spring, four out of the five golfers dropped strokes off their scores from round one to take sixth place. Sikora tied for 25th, shooting a 192 on the weekend, while
Annalee Card finished 29th with a 214 and
Ella Narins finished 31st with a 247.
McCann, Haehl, Sikora and
Cara Vredenburg will all bring senior leadership and knowledge to the squad this season, while Card and Narins return for their sophomore campaigns. Newcomers to the team this season include junior
Caroline Mower and first-year
Sadie Cumming.
Following the Saints' home invitational, the Scarlet and Brown will play in the Ithaca Fall Invitational on September 7-8, and the Middlebury Fall Invitational September 21-22. St. Lawrence is also scheduled to play in the Williams Fall Invitational on September 28-29.
