Saints See More AARTFC Qualifying Standards in Second-Place Finish at SLU Twilight Invite

The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team placed second overall as they finished their home season with plenty of athletes hitting the AARTFC qualifying standard ahead on a rainy Saturday afternoon. 

The Saints also spent the day honoring their graduating student-athletes, where they were presented with gifts in a post-meet ceremony. 

"It was an exciting way to wrap up our home schedule today," said Kate Howard, the Saints' head coach. "We saw many good performances, and we finished the day with a wonderful ceremony honoring our seniors for their final meet at the Merrick Track & Field Complex. We look forward to seeing what the group can accomplish on a big stage as we ramp up for the Liberty League championship."

Carly Zack placed first overall in a distance race, hitting a major milestone in the process. Her top-ranked time of 11:53.05 in the 3000m steeplechase hit the AARTFC standard, sending her to regionals in the process.

The Saints also received strong performance in the 400m, where Caelan McHarney had a good outing with a run of 1:03.60.

Three notable times occurred for the Scarlet and Brown in the 1500m, giving the Saints a good chunk of their team points from the track. Alli Sibold placed third in the event with a time of 4:38.43. Charlotte Blake followed her up in fourth with a time of 4:46.52, and Emma Palumbo placed seventh with a time of 4:52.34.

In the field, the Saints saw a victory in the discus, with Lacey Eckert taking first place. She fired one for 35.95 to take the top spot int hat field event.

The Saints also had points scored in the hammer throw, with Lauryn Cruz placing fourth with a throw for 35.54. Eckert also placed in this event, tossing one for 35.05 in the hammer.

The meet wraps up the regular season schedule for the Scarlet and Brown, as they now head to Troy, N.Y. for the Liberty League championship, beginning Friday, May 3.
